if you want to try out amp modeling, this is the time!

good post, thanks, I agree with everything you say. Another thing to consider when getting into modeling is are you even trying to emulate real tube amps? I don't even play much electric guitar, I'm much more of a piano/acoustic guitar player, and am not trying to emulate any specific amp, just...

if you want to try out amp modeling, this is the time!

;)at least I'm not alone in my error, if a whole website is dedicated to my error:o I see your point, but that's like saying that you may be able to get a good sound out of your home studio, but it won't compare with a multi-million dollar commercial complex in LA with seasoned professionals...

if you want to try out amp modeling, this is the time!

Sweetwater is having a sale that is actually quite a big deal if you have been thinking of trying out amp modeling. Click here to see it. Usually $300 (the gold edition being more like $500 I think), but since it's B stock it's only 99 bucks, and it comes with both the toneport interface and the...

Recommend me a keyboard good for drum tracks

m audio axiom. Has semi-weighted keys, AND 8 drum pads, plus a million assignable faders/knobs etc. Great midi controller in general.

    AT 4050/DMP 3 pre decision.

I've heard the at4050 is the same as the 4040 but with more patterns.......I'm not sure if that is correct or not. But if you plan on just using cardioid, then it's worth looking into. The DMP3 is a pretty sweet preamp. I've owned both a DMP3 and an RNP, there isn't a huge difference if I...

    electric guitars....always out of tune?

thanks for all the help everyone I'm going to look into intonation and also try going back to the good old-fashioned "ear tuning" meathod. I've discovered that I can tune the g string just right so it sounds ok open, and ok closed, but not perfect. But I know I can't perfectly tune a guitar.

    electric guitars....always out of tune?

I just started messing around with my electric for the first time in forever today. I'd tune the guitar perfectly, just to hear out-of-tune chords. For example, I'd play a C chord: and the open G string would be out-of-tune. So Then I'd tune it up a little, then play an F chord: Just to find...

    Recording Acoustic Guitars

I was just about to recomend MSH mics, good call. For 25 bucks each you can get increadible results. I ALWAYS use these on acoustic guitar, nothing (in my modest little mic collection....:() beats them. There's something that SDC's can give you that LDC's cannot when it comes to acoustic...

    Inexpensive Midi/USB controller suggestions?

*shudders* I remember my first keyboard, it was something very similar. Then I got a Fender Rhodes 73, then a Hohner Pianet, then another Fender Rhodes, then a Prokeys 88sx, then a Prokeys 88, then a Casio Privia px-700, and then an Axiom 61. I'm keeping the Privia and the Axiom. The Privia is...

CD-R's are going the way of cassettes :(

I buy blank CDR's off the net for $.17 each, 100 each case. They look great too, they have a white printable top. Forget where I got them though. I wouldn't be suprised if dvd's went out in a few years too.

    Inexpensive Midi/USB controller suggestions?

Another vote for the Axiom. Can't say I like all m-audio keyboards (prokeys 88 is terrible) but this keyboard looks great. I just bought an Axiom 61 earlier today actually, can't say I have any hands on expirience with it since it's not shipped yet, but it seems fantastic from what I've read. 8...

best action on a midi controller?

yeah I can't believe the action is so good for such a low price. The problem I think with so many keyboards action is that manufacturers think "heavy" action equals realistic action, so they make the keys simply heavy, which usually equals spongy, jerky action. Like the prokeys. They're heavy...

expensive mics with not so expensive pre-amps?

Lots of people seem to think mics are more important than the preamp, I've never really thought that, but I'm going to have to look into that and perhaps expand my mic collection a mic or two. I can only draw from my own expirience though. I upgraded from an RNP to a DAV BG1 and the difference...

expensive mics with not so expensive pre-amps?

my point is that you can buy a $25 mic and have it sound fantastic, but you can't buy a $25 dollar preamp and have it sound fantastic. He's better off distributing his budget accordingly.

The costs to build a studio....

I'm with his point of view. I'll never understand how people get hung up with trying to make a profit with music, unless they are trying to make a living as an engineer or something, in which case it becomes fully understandable. Having profit be a main focus when it comes to creating your own...

The costs to build a studio....

Are you trying to make a living off recording/producing rap with only $50k and no prior professional studio expirience? If so, I wouldn't hold your breath. If you're not interested in making profit and are doing it for the pure love of music, than $50k can make a pretty sweet home studio, heck I...

expensive mics with not so expensive pre-amps?

Don't get an expensive mic only to use it with a sucky preamp, that kind of lineup is COMPLETELY useless. You're much better off buying a nice preamp with that 800 dollars. The thing is, you can buy a mic that renders fantastic results for nearly nothing (MSH's anyone?), but you can't buy a...

best action on a midi controller?

same here, couldn't live with it's sucky action a minute longer. On the upside though, the prokeys 88 has a great Rhodes sound, and string sound. I haven't been able to find a better string sound on any keyboard, it's quite unique.
