Actually, today I just ordered a Yamaha Magicstomp II multiFX for $79.99.

I'd like one of these but I'm not about to pay $265 for it.

And if you insure it through UPS good luck trying to collect on a claim.

There's also another "deal" going on at MF right now that if you buy 10 sets of acoustic strings for $99, they throw in a "free" acoustic guitar. I shit you not. That may be the ticket. Have them ship the whole pile of crap to Andover on their dime. Just think, at that price you could just leave...

Similar to my question about a new "Strat" :p with a hard case and gig bag for $400. :D At that kind of money whatever you get may not float the boat, but it'll sure paddle the canoe. ;)

The Elitist line is manufactured in Japan. The other Epi's in China and Korea.

Epi addressed the hum issue. All the ones manufactured after December 2005 have the modifications. Look for ones with anything after 1205(december 2005) in the serial number. Prices were also raised $10 and $20 respectively for the head and the combo.

Quality of woods, hardware, electronics, headstock shape. When you get into the Japan made Elitist Epis though, you're basically getting a Gibson at a lower price. I've got my eye on the Elitist Broadway.

Sometimes I feel like kicking myself for passing on the DeArmond blowout. I could've bought the X-155(a big hollowbody jazz box) for like $375.00! Sorry I can't tell you whether $800 for the Guild is a good deal. The Guild, IMO, is a much better guitar but one that old I'd have to see and play...

I wish I was good enough with soldering to mod printed circuit boards like that. I took an electronics course several years ago and pretty much trashed all the boards I practiced on. Sloppy, sloppy! :p Changing a speaker is easy enough though.

Gibson is on a giant marketing blitz right now. The name brand "Gibson" is popping up everywhere, it seems. The new direction is "lifestyles" rather than guitars. The Gibson marketers are creating an image thing. The CEO admitted this himself in an article a few months ago. Don't get me wrong...
