He has an Intel chipset. Shouldnt be a problem. (My mistake. I read the wrong post) What is the Chipset?
An AGP card might be better but you can also use a Pci and as long as its not shared d you should not have any problems.
Usb can be a problem with these cards. If you are using Usb I may...
If you get your manual someone may be able to help you further. Just go here and register (its free) and you will be able to ID your MB and get a manual.
A very important question that has not been brought up. Are you using any USB devices?

"webstop: I'll give it a try with the AGP slot (honestly, Im not sure I have one. Is that the black slot near the PCI ports? I saw that I have one of those)."
An AGP slot is slightly shorter than a Pci slot. But more important is what version is your AGP slot. Not all AGP cards are created...
There was nothing there to have hard feelings.:) Just a little confusion,
So brzilian was still right on the two track limitation. Which was my contention of using Cw 9.3 instead of Hs 2002 if you planned on doing more than 2 tracks "simultaneously". Unless of course you wanted to pay big bucks...
I didnt make the statement on Hs2002 so the 2 track must be on an earlier version.
Maybe brzilian was thinking of an earlier version.
If thats the case its problably a good deal.
But it is also a discontinued product which has no support.
I dont know why you would say that as its still discussed at The cakewalk forum (not here) as well as other places. Also it can be upgraded to Sonar as well.
Why is it a better product then HS2002?
Just because of the 2 track...
I had n-track but didnt like it. Went to cakewalk 9.3 and cool edit. Cakewalk 9.3 is better than cakewalk Homestudio. Price is down on it. Check ebay for it too.

If your keyboard has a Midi out Just get the free software I pointed out or any other sequencer and you can record a Midi file and play it back throiugh your sound card.
If you have a both a Midi In and out you can record to the software and play it back through the keyboard or soundcard...
As far as I know, even version 2 of Cool Edit only has a midi player and not a recorder.
Check out the Anvil studio. (Its freeware)

"I would like to play a brief solo on my keyboard but I would like it to generate a midi file that is "saveable". "
Yes you can do that but as Texroadkill stated A MIDI sequencer will only record the midi data and use that to playback your synths so it will only be as good as your Snyths.
" My...
"When I pressed play on the Roland I could see Cakewalk responding but there was no sound. I don't think it was actually recording anything in Cakewalk. I'm connecting the two with a midi (Roland) to joystick (soundcard) cable."
Thats not what Midi is used for in this case. It only Synchs the...
Just to add to this.
My keyboard has 2 Analog outs which goes to my mixer along with Midi which goes to my computer. If you dont have a direct out you can use the Headphone out (If its acceptable) to your recording inputs. This lets you Blend both the Midi and Analog. You might be Playing the...
I dont have cubase but I do have a layla. The problem looks like your settings in cubase. Your software should give you a choice of Left,Right & stereo. You have stereo chosen on all your Inputs and thats why your only getting 4. You can record on all 8 channels at the same time with any Layla...
I have a Layla and use Cep. Make sure your Playback option is correct in Cep.
It could be possible that you have a bad Jack on the card.
After Thought. Just in case.
If your using a 1/8" adapter on your 1/4" headphones to go into the card make sure its stereo.
You should be able to import the midi file into Biab (or any other software) then solo the instrutment. Then Minimize the screen.
Then arm the track in cep and choose your input and output devices. Hit record. Then bring up Biab and hit play.
I do it all the time with Jammerpro and cakewalk.
The easiest way to do this is using your soundcards joystick port with a midi cable made for this. This cable also lets you use your Joystick.
