    cover bands....depressing?

We did a hard rock verison of Madonna's "Material Girl." It got a good laugh. Still not as popular as "Get Down tonight." Not as fun either. We could strech out that song for close to 20 minutes with added solos and repeated verses. People didn't seem to notice. Better to strech out a song...

Dipping a toe into digital recording

Maybe so. I’ve recorded a 7 demos with the RPx & Pro Tracks. They came out pretty well for a first time try. I just used the midi drums on the digitech. The acoustic guitars sound good. Of course I used a mic and recorded them in the bathroom for optimum acoustics. The electric guitar sounds...

    cover bands....depressing?

Maybe this is just me, but it seems that the second year is when most bands break up. I think when most bands start off everyone is gun ho and ready to give it their all. But after the band gets some success the egos start to develop and band members aren’t as eager to compromise. Either that...

    Chicken or the Egg?

I’ve written with a few people and varying styles of writing. I was just curious for most songwriters what comes first: the music or the lyrics? Do most great songwriters perfer one before the other?

Does this ever happen to you?

songwriters rule. First of all make no mistake; Vanilla and his boys knew what they were doing when they sampled “Under Pressure.” It wasn’t a case of someone writing something and not knowing that it subconsicencly came from somewhere else. There have been cases where artists have been sued...

How much do 'successful' indie bands make?

Good points… I was never in a band that played too far away from our base. I knew Bands that would go to Los Angeles, New York, Jacksonville and do nation wide tours in order to make it to the big time. I guess the strategy my band used was start small and build slowly. We started at a...

How much do 'successful' indie bands make?

Well there are many “hidden” fees with the big corporate labels. One of the guitar magazines did a great article 7 or more years ago about the pros and cons of being signed. They had a pie chart that showed all the people a band had to support: CEO’s, Managers, A&R people, secretaries, talent...

    cover bands....depressing?

That’s a great point. I was in a band in college and we started out doing talent shows and free parties. We did 80% original music (primarily because we were too lazy to learn cover songs) and a few caught on with the crowds that came to see us. Now make no mistake they were there for the free...

    1.5 out!

I’m thinking about buying Adobe Audition 1.5. I know Adoble also has a five-hour training DVD selling separately. Can you guys give me the lowdown on the tutorial DVD? Just wondering if I should invest and extra $150.00 and get the full tour.

    Bad Guitar Sound

I’ve been using my Digitech RPx400 to record onto Pro Tracks with. I tweeked the sound just as I liked it, but after I record and play back the tone is lower and sounds a bit muddy. Anyone know what could be causing this? Sorry for such a simple question, thanks in advance

    Split sec delay in monitors

I was recording some basic acoustic guitar parts today (Ovation through a digitech RPx400 recording onto Pro Tracks) and I started getting a split sec delay on my monitor. I switched guitars & made sure that none of the delays or reverb settings were on the processor but it was still coming...

    Is this true?

Hum... I bet I can do that just with the head and not worry about hooking up the cabnet. I'll have to try that, even though with an old Crate head I'm probably better off just going direct with the Digitech RPx400 Thanks for the tips

    Is this true?

I read somewhere that you can get a good guitar sound for recording by putting a Marshall or Fender mini amp in a shoe box, covering the box with just a little hole for the mic. Anyone else try this? If so how did the sound turn out? How about mic placement?

Dipping a toe into digital recording

My plan is to just record some basic guitar tracks with the Midi drums provided by the Digitech RPx400. Maybe somewhere down the line I would record some vocals after I get more knowledgeable about the Pro Tracks software and look into buying a vocal processor. I can run the vocals through the...

Dipping a toe into digital recording

I recently bought a Digitech RPx400 with the USB hook up and pro tools. I figured it would be a good way to send ideas to my former songwriting partners and get my feet wet in basic digital recording. The sound is decent, and even though I’m a novice I know nothing beats a mic and an amp...
