I understand I can record bits of music at home using something else and then bring them to school to import into Garageband, but I want to be able to arrange and edit at home. I know it's probably impossible to use another program (especially on PC) and actually "save as" a finished Garageband...
I attend the University of Iowa and they offer a class on Garageband software through their music department. I never used Garageband and don't own a Mac, but I decided to take the class anyway because hey, why would you take a real class when you can get college credit for recording music...
I have one day left on my trial version of Reaper and I’m still not sure if I want to buy it because I haven’t been able to do exactly what I want with it yet. I was hoping some of you could point me in the right direction, because I think its more lack of knowledge on my part than shortcomings...
I know Acid and some other programs have the reputation of being "looping" kinds of programs, which is how I like to make music a lot of the time. I'm not playing techno or rap or other genres which have a persistant beat, but even rock is sometimes easier to write using repeated loops rather...
I was recently in the market to buy an acoustic electric and did a lot of research before I bought mine. My budget was a little higher, around $500, but I found that the Takamine and Ibanez guitars proved to be the ones that played and sounded the best in that price range. I went to quite a few...
Since I’ve gotten my hardware running relatively error-free, I’ve spent the last couple weeks learning and tinkering with different software, trying to figure out which one is best for me. I have downloaded trial versions of lots of different software including Reaper, Acid, Cubase, Sonar, and...
Actually, I hadn't planned on doing anything in the way of room treatment or monitoring... I was going to record exclusively direct to PC, through headphones. Is that bad?
My situation is:
1. I live in a townhouse apartment so I can't be too loud
2. My music equipment doesn't use any amps...
I finally got everything working properly, for the most part, and I wanted to make a follow-up to this thread in case anyone else ran into a similar problem. Although there are still more questions than answers, the solution’s overall theme is that the Alienware Laptop was finicky. Pretty much...
The Saga Continues
I think you're right... I uninstalled the drivers and the problem went away, even with the unit still plugged in (of course, without drivers it was unuseable). I tried all 7 or so drivers they had available on the Tascam website, and also tried ASIO4ALL but it didn't make a...
Ocnor, thanks for your suggestions. I tried adjusting the USB power management you specified, but it didn't make a difference.
Post-rebuild the problem continues. :( As I noticed it did before, the fault is occurring computer-wide, not just in the recording software, but in anything that...
Hey, thanks for the help Chili...
Yes, the interface is USB powered, and I have experienced the same problem with it plugged into all 4 USB ports on the laptop, with all other devices unplugged and not.
I'm not really too firmiliar with Cubase yet (this setup was supposed to be my grand...
The Cubase LE4 is a full version that came with my interface, so it's not the case there. The Acid and Tracktion are both trials, but I just downloaded them to eliminate software as a possiblility and they both have lots of time left. Thanks for the idea, though... I've run out of them. :(
I’m having a mind-melting recording problem and I’m wondering if anyone out there can help. I have been working on this problem for over a month and have still not figured out what is causing it, and this post is my white flag cry for help.
I have a modest home recording setup using a TASCAM...
