How are your ears today? Hopefully my new song won't offend them!

Thanks! Thanks both for the listens...I'm really struggling to nail the snare sound / rimshot. Dunno what i can do there, different samples don't seem to alter the 'ticking' effect. Perhaps I should just add variation to the patterns... I actually like the snare sound in the heavier parts but...

How are your ears today? Hopefully my new song won't offend them!

Hi All, I wrote this song on Sunday and have spent every evening after work recording it. Finished a mix last night. Would really appreciate any feedback with regards to mix, levels, eq etc... Recorded in Logic Pro. Guitars (fender semi-acoustic and godin lgxt electric, fender p-bass) run...

Lend us your ears for a few! :-)

ez drummer... what you can always do is take one of the inbuilt grooves to get a 'realistic' hihat pattern and then edit the snare and kick beats as required...saves a bit of time...and listen to what real drummers do of course; it also helps to know a drummer! :-) ben.

Lend us your ears for a few! :-)

thanks... Hi, thanks again both...will try to EQ slightly differently. Joe - because I've never considered myself a singer, I've never bothered with looking for a decent mic (a huge mistake in retrospect); the one I used was a really awful dynamic shure bg 1.1 (this is like a budget sm58)...

thanks man... Hey thanks Joe - those are my vocals...well an attempt at least ;-)... At the risk of trying to polish a turd (vocal wise), do you think they could be improved by boosting the mid e.q? Will certainly try tomorrow, am just about to hit the sack... I should perhaps get some singing...

Lend us your ears for a few! :-)

Any better? I updated the track based on Sound and Vision's comments by reverbing the vocals a little and adding a harmonic exciter at around 7k. I couldn't back off on the vocal compression because I currently don't have access to the original unprocessed vocal tracks. I also added some side...

nice, but not sure about bass guitar. I really like it...although the bass guitar seems to lack sonic clarity...cuts across as being rather subby lacking in punch and character... ben.

    Two Metal tracks

nice... Kick sounds a little muffled (headphones)...Could be more punchy...Other than that, sounds great. What did you use for guitars?

    Shadows of the Dead

nice one! Hi mate, sounds like nice production to my humble ears...I prefer the bones one to the other, as it sounds a lot more raw and is obviously a real drum sound rather than a drum machine. I feel the drums are way way way too compressed on bones however. Perhaps ease up on it a little...

I need an a$$ kicking mix critique

interesting When do the drums come in :-P? How do you get those sounds, out of curiosity? Did you record them? If so damn good job...I'm not good enough to tell if they're samples or not... Not what I normally listen to but sounds good to my ears. I listened to the other tracks - those are...

    A new experiment.

cool man.. Really loved this when I listened to it earlier...was wondering if you'd really played all those instruments (including the drums), now I know you used ez drummer ;-) I like the style too...I'm not normally into ska, but this is almost a modern pop rock track with a hint of ska...

thanks man... I really appreciate your feedback...I'll have another bash at the vocal mix tomorrow...giving my ears a break for the rest of the night :-) Gotta love ez drummer Ben.

Lend us your ears for a few! :-)

well... ...tried to tighten up the drum fills and redid the bass guitar..I still think its a little loose in places and the snare sounds a little artificial - what says the community? runD.mp3 An updated version (edit): runE.mp3 cheers, ben.

Amazing two new songs! Stranded (original), Scientist (cover)

Nice guitar! :-P oh, and absolutely beautiful voice too!..Other than that, I'm not sure how youtube encodes stuff-- the video looks fairly high quality. However, around 2:34 and on for a bit, I can hear a tiny bit of microphone distortion. And also at 3:20 or so...but its negligible probably...

Lend us your ears for a few! :-)

Hi All, I originally tracked this back in '05 but just this weekend decided to re-track the drums and bass guitar (both of which are still a little flappy having done a few takes over the last few days). Please let us know what you reckon of it so far/what I can to to improve it - always a work...

New track. I can't decide if its crap or not.

Ok, I will have another go...like your stuff btw, just been listening to it cheers ben.

New track. I can't decide if its crap or not.

cool one mate! good story and good points....Anyway, I listened to both you and Greg_L...I remixed from the gound up, tried to make the percussion a little less dull, and pulled back on the final mix compression...Is this mix any better? I'm hoping its more airy sounding now... ThePlace...

New track. I can't decide if its crap or not.

thanks man... Am going to remix in half hour or so...just been out jogging...bloody knackered, need to recoup... I think I know what both you and Greg_L are referring to though in terms of the squashed dynamic...I am going to back off from the izotope plugin, remix it properly and then...
