Track In A Studio Mix At Home or Track At Home Mix In A Studio

Tracking at home and having a professional mix for you at a studio would be the best route in my opinion.

Ozone 5 as a mixing tool

There's a lot of good stuff in Ozone like the EQ that are good for individual tracks. I don't see why it's not acceptable.

    Me friend Butts

The poor/minimal mixing and the vocals reminds me of twee/indie pop of the 80's. I actually like how this sounds a lot. I would widen it a bit at least. But I really like your voice and the instrumentals, throwback to the C86 era for sure! Channeling some Belle and Sebastian as well. Lot of...

    Mixing with Computer Speakers

Yeah I think I get by pretty well just by knowing my speakers really well. Surely I would do better with great monitors and room treatment but when you're a poor college student, that just isn't a possibility.

    Mixing with Computer Speakers

Another reason why I haven't gotten studio monitors is because everyone tells me any pair under $500-$600 is not worth my time and that if I don't have room treatment, I should just forget about monitors all together. I live in an apartment so I can't get room treatment.

    Mixing with Computer Speakers

Yeah I'm going to have to get monitors eventually so I might as well pull the trigger on them now. Thanks for the advice guys.

    Need opinions/help on experimental electronic

Everything seems pretty quiet and not really EQ'd at all. Did you try EQing anything? Especially the drums, they're really lacking in energy.

Got a new one - Chameleon

There's not much I would criticize for what you're going for. I would maybe turn up the distorted guitars and EQ them a bit better, especially during the chorus. Also the fake drums kind of take away from the quality of the mix but there's nothing you can do about that.

    Advice on this mix?

    1) The overall volume of the track is really quiet 2) I think you should mess with the acoustic guitars more. They sound way too plain. EQ them a bit more and maybe add some reverb? 3) I think the lower octave of the vocals should be way quieter and the lead vocals should go up. They also sound...

    Mixing with Computer Speakers

I have posted my stuff on the mixing clinic. I never really got any comments regarding my sound being off kilter or anything. You can listen to it to tell me how it sounds if you want. https://soundcloud.com/betterbest/black-eye I've also heard my music on a lot of different speakers. If my...

    Mixing with Computer Speakers

Someone ban this guy^ But yeah, I know there is limited range in computer speakers for sure. I usually do most of my mixing in headphones first then check the mix by playing it through my computer speakers. I actually use pretty flat speakers currently. I went on amazon and looked for the...

    Mixing with Computer Speakers

I always mix on my $40 computer speakers. They have a sub-woofer, which is usually at moderate levels and have two stereo speakers that have great clarity. The reason I do this is because I listen to music all day off iTunes through these speakers. I know what mixes sound like coming through...

What Do You Guys Think of This Mix?

The only thing we can do at this point is agree to disagree. I believe they will have a huge influence because they have already spawned a lot of imitation psych-rock bands. Not only that, but I still believe they're making music that no one else is making or has made. Music doesn't change...

What Do You Guys Think of This Mix?

I've listen to Os Mutantes before and while I do agree that there are some cross-over sounds, they don't sound that similar to me. Tame Impala's sounds from Lonerism are based on synths invented in the 80's. Their debut album is a bit closer to Os Mutantes but still not similar enough for me to...

What Do You Guys Think of This Mix?

I agree. The best artists make use of what they have. The drumming is great on the album because of the playing style and not just because some vintage compressor. But it definitely helps. I know Tame Impala isn't that radical at all. They still make pop songs. But they take a different...

What Do You Guys Think of This Mix?

"Look...you asked what people thought of the mix...I don't care for it at all, and that's NOT because I prefer only one kind of mix style, so it's not about being "put off" by avant-garde styles...I just don't like THIS mix. I don't think it does the music justice, though maybe it does for the...

What Do You Guys Think of This Mix?

I think if you're not prepared to listen to this style of mixing, it may be a bit off-putting on first listen. To say it's just "bad mixing" is a tad ridiculous. Dave Fridmann, the one who mixed the album, is one of the best producers in the indie scene. Also, I doubt an album with "bad mixing"...

    How does it seem?

Whoops, I meant to put "keep the sound in mid-range frequency." The song I linked was an example of a vintage sound but with clean studio production. He could go that route or he could change his mixing, by mostly occupying the mid-range frequencies, to achieve a vintage sound. Or he can do both.

What Do You Guys Think of This Mix?

For the record, I actually do think Lady Gaga is great. Her first album anyways.

    How does it seem?

Yeah "gay-est production I've recently heard" is so descriptive. Don't blame me if you can't articulate without throwing around homophobic innuendos. You don't have to tip-toe if you don't want, just know that it makes you seem like you lack the intellectual capacity to critique music on a...
