    Female vocals!

I need some advice broskies. I posted this track without vocals mixed veerrry differently, but now I'm getting closer to finishing (they want this done this week) and I need some advice. Please, tell me how this sounds. I know someone will hate the kick or the snare or the guitar tone, I...

    One of my favorite clients!

Thanks for the feedback lads! Their drummer is really good, I'm always excited to track him. He manages to play 'out' while still sounding 'in'. He was a jazz student who got into Dream Theatre and prog. death metal but it's for the better. I think he babied himself a lot when I met him, but...

    One of my favorite clients!

These guys have been working with me for a bit under two years now and they've gone from being a progressive metal band to whatever you'd call this: http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?id=18527 We're going to do vocals today and they'll probably want a mix right quick, so I'm looking for...

Luodness or dynamcs - what would You sacriifice?

Don't feed Reklus. With my monitors at half their potential output, a modern recording is as loud as I would ever want it at 3 'clicks' but the blaring, distorted midrange and lack of detail in SOME of these recordings makes me sick. I personally just experiment with what I can do and find a...

    compression starting spots

The best spot to start is just experimenting and really hearing how certain attack/release combos affect the sound at a really low threshold at extreme ratios. You'll know what to hear by being exposed to exageration. Then try and make it so you JUST BARELY notice the effect. You'll probably...

The Eternal Debate Continues. . .

I pick tape for loud shit. I pick digital for sweet shit. Blah blah, they both win. That's like "which mic?" or "what Q?" it's random and unanswerable.

    TI cover "Whatever U Like"

This is a band I'm recording. They're doing this song and I think it's coming out the best of all the songs we did during these sessions. I'd like feedback! If you need any information, just ask. http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?id=18296

Recording drums on saturday need some help

http://www.myspace.com/inmydemise http://www.myspace.com/Inabliss http://www.myspace.com/dustup1 http://www.myspace.com/totheriverred These are all spaced pair overheads with CAD M177s, SM57s and Audix I5s. The kicks and snare are all varying combos of the original close mic and a sample...

Recording drums on saturday need some help

What does the recording sound like without the samples? Since we're talking about drums here, why not let us hear a mix of just the drums without samples? I personally like to use spaced pairs...But I'm increasingly shortening the distance of the space. I think XY with small condensers is...

    Punk Rock Recording Question(s)

The bass may not be the issue at all but I'll put in my two cents anyway. Matt Freeman and Fat Mike play really hard for the most part and that's necessary on any instrument to cut through in a mix. If you have that satisfied and are going through a decent amp that overdrives a little bit...

    guitar simulation

Overloud's TH-1 is the best thing out there. I've only played with the demo but if you get a more realistic distorted guitar tone out of Amplitube or Guitar Rig versus TH-1, I'll be amazed.

To click-track or not to click-track..

You have a very good point. I never record demos without a click going, so I've experimented with the sound a lot. Things with extremely sharp transients tend to make it feel much too urgent. Like Sonar's default. It's hard to lay back sometimes.

To click-track or not to click-track..

I did this for the longest time with bands that had drummers who couldn't follow a click/spazzed out at fast fills/had a poor sense of tempo in general, and it doesn't do much but make it a bit easier to start the song out. The main issue here is that there's a difference between grooving and...

    Mic placement vs. acoustics

Which is more important? Which would be a bigger improvement; learning how to work in a bedroom to your fullest or using a better space without the skill? Zombie with a 57 in a nice room or Bruce Swedien with a 57 in a bathroom? Which would sound better?

To click-track or not to click-track..

I've spent thousands of hours practicing to a click; my tempo is fucking spot on. Every practice session I go through has at least a half hour dedicated to dynamics. I can play consistently and understand how to make my guitar cut through, no matter what effects or tone I'm using. That's not...

What do you think about this A Perfect Circle (3 Libras) Cover?

Pretty good dude. I think most of the parts are right except for that break after the first verse where it's just drums, but I haven't heard this song in years! The ending was very messy though, and your vocals were out of tune, but good job, Maynard is a hard singer to do justice to and you...

    Damage Control Womanizer

I've used both the Demonizer and Womanizer and they're both excellent pedals but in no way comparable in terms of use and sound to a TS. You're going to traditionally use a TS to push an amp's input section into overdrive, then crank the bitch and get the speaker and power tubes working, which...

    Somethings Not Right

If you aren't using Guitar Rig anymore, what are you using? Perhaps you should post a sample.

Solid state, tube, modeler... which ones which?

I think 5 is a modeler and 6 is solid state, but that's all I can guess on.

    How is this guitar Tone?

I like it. Maybe use a little less bass.
