    My new band and...ReverbNation?

First off, I am deeply, DEEPLY sorry if this is considered spam. I don't think it is but my bad if it is, dudes. I've been on here for five years or so now and I've never posted in here :( So anyway, I don't know what to say; I started writing songs about a year ago after my last band went...

    The 90s Sound

Layer a bunch of crappy sounding guitars ten thousand times; I love TSP but their production now vs. the '90s is much better.

For a first release, what is better, an EP or an LP

The medium is irrelevant. Be it the internet or a CD or vinyl or tape, putting out an EP of 3-4 songs and some bonus material (a song that isn't marketable, maybe a special version of one of the other songs, a remix, a video, whatever) is good promotion for a full-length LP. I say you demo the...

    queen's guitar harmonies

Good Old-fashioned Lover Boy is my favorite Queen song! I wish you'd finish. What're you using for an amp/guitar? A lot of Brian May's sound and the reason his guitar parts work so well on recordings is because of his equipment and the way they'd usually track the amp. If you get a nice...

Post: #1Re-engineering Another Brick in the Wall Part II

First of all, on every instrument save the drums (the vocals popped at me first, then the guitar solo, then the bass guitar during the solo) there are present timing issues. The drums sound nice and tight, how were they done? And to that end, why did you choose to record the guitars DI...

    DIY Drum Shield w/ StudioFoam

It would probably take at least a hundred regurgitated hard boiled eggs per wall, but I think the maximum number of hard boiled eggs you can eat in one sitting is only 50, and that's if you're Paul Newman. It'd be worth the effort though. Half-digested hard boiled eggs are anechoic when they...

    DIY Drum Shield w/ StudioFoam

I believe that the best way to maximize diffusion from eggs is to smash them IN the crates and nail them to the walls, but it only works in humid environments.

    DIY Drum Shield w/ StudioFoam

I wanted to chime in here too; When it comes down to it, there are a billion ways you can build treatment DIY that will work just as well or better than commercial products. You can buy bags of insulation and stack it up in your corners for bass trapping; you can use dense foam like they use...

    DIY Drum Shield w/ StudioFoam

I say build a cloud and open the door! A cloud will let you put your overheads higher without getting high end reflected back and messing up the cymbal sound, and if you can manage a four inch absorber with a four inch air gap, you'll cut out a lot of lower mids that will take all the tone and...

EV RE20 vs. Shure SM7, opinions on two fine dynamics?

SM7 all the way. They sound good on practically everything; vocals, kick, bass, guitar, even as a room mic! Although I doubt you'll be unhappy with an RE-20. It's a win win really, they're both badass mics and they're a much better investment than any cheap condenser.

    help me mix this

I've been sitting in front of my computer for 10 years trying to improve. Perhaps after 10 years you'll know what to do! But seriously, that sample you posted was of a backing track for a LP song and then the singing you recorded...Separately? Why were the two elements separated? How are we...

    Lots of 2khz-5khz...some hints?

I'd give the narrow cuts on the mix bus thing a try. It works wonders, especially when you're doing lots of limiting.

pvc pipe celing project budget $100

Do you have absorption at the first reflection points on the walls? That's just as important if you want accurate stereo. I like the rolls of insulation in the corner, lol. I've got bags of Cocoon fill in the corners with some 2" panels standing on them, stradling the corner. It works...

    My label's first artist demo/album

I listened again and I think once you've got the rest of the arrangement in there, you should re-post this so we can hear it with bass and stuff. It might glue everything together.

How far I've come in a couple years...

You're not doing anything wrong using compression to boost the overall volume of tracks, but you've gotta always have a very clear reason for using it or you'll just be running around boosting noise. Tell yourself, "I want ___ out of this and it isn't giving it to me" and make that happen in...

How far I've come in a couple years...

I'm not going to comment on the songs with programmed drums because I don't know how much there is to really comment on. Overall, it sounds like you're using a bit too much compression. Try and back off, use two compressors on the snare, one to do some light limiting and squash peaks (use...

    new CD, old songs...

That's pretty fucking amazing dude. I want to make direct comparisons but...Screw that. The recording sounds awesome, PERHAPS a bit too much reverb but you've done an A+ job. Everything sounds right minus that one qualm.

    My label's first artist demo/album

It sounds good to me on RP5s and some isolation headphones. If I could suggest anything, it might be to limit the vocal by a decibel or so. Otherwise, it's really good.

    Female vocals!

Matt, I LOVE FYS. So much. This song reminds me of them too! Thanks for the input dude. The guitarist loves the tone and I'm fond of it too (we both like really midrangey smooth stuff so we get along great). It's through a processor (A mid level Digitech GNX thingy) so that may be the...

    Check out my drums!

Sounds good to me! I really dig the kick. The mix in general is pretty boss.
