Thanks for the replies. If you guys don't reccomend using the MXL993s then I guess I can go with the MXL603? If they seem to be popular, I can squeeze them into my budget. The Octava MK012 and Studio Projects C4 seem to be a bit to expensive.
How do you guys think the E602 on kick, SM57 on...
Wow, thanks for all the help! Yes I'll be recording live most of the time. Here's what I'm looking at so far...
Drums:
SM57
Sennheiser E602
MXL 993 (pair)
Amps:
SM57
Vocals:
??? (Note: I'll need around 3 vocal mics for recording lead & backup singers.)
I'm still unsure on what to go with for...
I'm interested in not going with just one brand, such as Shure. I'd like to mix it up and put together my own "kit." I've read some good things about Sennheiser so I thought I might pick up there E602. I'm still clueless for the overheads. As I get some more money I'll purchase seperate mics for...
Okay, my microphone questions are spread over a few threads so I'll just compress it all here.
I plan to be recording funk, jazz, rock, you name it. Tell me if this looks good.
Drum Microphones: ($400 Budget)
Snare: Shure SM57 - $90
Kick: Sennheiser E602 - $180
Overheads: Any suggestions...
I'll be recording drums (Four 57s), Guitar Amps (57s), Bass (DI maybe?), and vocals (??). I'm on a tight budget, thats why I was thinking about 57s/58s.
Froogle found it for $750. It looks like a nice mixer.
I've heard Mackie is the top notch brand to go with, thats the only reason I'm looking in to it. My friend has a smaller Yamaha like the one listed above and it's alright. I'd still probably go with Mackie.
I've never recorded a bass before so thanks for the tip about recording via a direct in. Any reason for that?
I plan on purchasing around 7 or 8 SM57s for recording instruments and 3 or 4 SM58s for vocals, run it all into a mixer, and then into my laptop.
I've been using an old radioshack 8 channel mixer and it's time to upgrade.
I plan to be traveling and recording bands locally.
I've been looking at the Mackie CFX-16 which looks pretty cool. My budget is about $750.
Thanks for any help!
I just attempted recording with my laptop via its' built in Microphone IN and I ended up with something that sounded like a 56k download.
I'm guessing my other option is USB? I need to use my laptop as I'll be traveling around recording - so I need something portable.
What would guys suggest...
I can't say I'm the most knowledgeable when it comes to recording. I was hoping the rugs might act to prevent reverb. I faced the drums into the coner to save space. Should I face them out? Thanks.
I'm new to recording but I've manage to turn my bedroom into a make-shift recording studio. Below are some pictures:
