    Purchasing Pro EQ

Thanks! That's why I'm not an expert... because I give wrong answers!! :D

    Purchasing Pro EQ

I'm no expert, but I think the additional AD/DA conversion might negate any improvement that could be realized by using a hardware EQ. Just a thought.

    Purchasing Pro EQ

My drummer just bought this for our PA: http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--DBXIEQ31 It is freaking awesome. We've been using the built-in EQ on his Yamaha MG mixer and this new DBX EQ is like night and day. The difference is amazing. It sounds like he got new speakers. We also used to...

    i need more bass trapping

It's really frequency dependent. There is a nice little graphic on Ethan's page that shows this visually. Go to: http://www.ethanwiner.com/acoustics.html and scroll down until you see Figure 6. You could get real fancy and make the gap vary. :D

    upfront vocals

Have you tried singing very close to the mic? Proximity effect can be the difference between a vocal sounding thin and "roomy" and sounding fat and "in your face." If you aren't doing it already, try getting really close to the mic (within a couple inches) while you sing.

    Cables

I have a funny feeling someone is going to report this thread to Hosa! :D

    Cables

I agree that Hosa sucks. Even if they have a professional line that is "better," their name leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I bought a Hosa insert cable a few months ago so I could insert a compressor for vocals on a mixer. The only insert cable at the store was Hosa and I figured "Hey it's...

The "BlowMeAndKissMyAss" 2005 Award goes to

It's funny how people perceive things differently. I'd totally agree with you if the first Carvin rep to post in this thread said something to the effect of: "We are completely sorry for the misunderstanding, Rockdoc. Carvin values you as a customer and did not intend for you to have a...

The "BlowMeAndKissMyAss" 2005 Award goes to

Sounds like the only help RockDoc got was a bunch of punk Carvin employees getting on the internet to argue with him...

The "BlowMeAndKissMyAss" 2005 Award goes to

You're right... but I do know what I've read in this thread. You, mgood, and L-P apparently are company representatives and your behavior on this message board is disgusting. It is simply amazing that company employees would come on a message board and attack a customer. It's appaling. I'll...

The "BlowMeAndKissMyAss" 2005 Award goes to

Hey mgood... You're an ass-clown! I cannot believe you came here to pick a fight. I wasn't even involved and now I'm pissed off about this situation. Based on your posts here, I understand why RockDoc is angry and I don't blame him a bit. Carvin just lost any of my potential future business...

    Acoustic Guitar Dilemma?

Good speculation... Another thought... if it's an acoustic/electric then that strap button on the end is just as much of a 1/4" jack as it is a strap button. So it ends up being kind of convenient to design it as a dual function part.

    Acoustic Guitar Dilemma?

If your guitar doesn't have a cutaway body then you would probably never be bothered by drilling a hole and adding a strap button. My Takamine is a cutaway body style and I still drilled a hole to add a strap button just because I don't like the feel of a strap behind the nut. Yeah, sometimes...

Suppressing the hum from my guitar (boss ns-2)

I wouldn't neccessarily assume you need some kind of gate or noise reduction. It sounds like something in your Toronado isn't grounded. I would pop that baby open and check the wiring. Also, you might consider the pickups. I don't know anything about those Atomic pickups, but I'm willing to...

Tell me I can do this...soldering..

You can definitely do this. In fact, I would say that soldering is the *easy* part. The hard part is keeping the soldering iron away from the other wires you aren't soldering. It's pretty easy to melt a nearby wire and end up with a short.

    bulk picks?

LOL! You da man! Does anyone else find it funny that they only sell in 6-packs or 72-packs? Some middle ground would be cool... :D

    bulk picks?

I'd like to know as well. I've only been able to find my favorite picks (Dunlop Ultex) in 6-packs. I'd like to buy 20 or more at a time.

How do I conquer the dreaded snare ring?

Wow, did you actually read any of the posts in this thread? Just a couple posts up you will see: Not to mention that Massive Master, Robin Watson, Southside Glenn, and Noisewreck all gave suggestions on EQ, noise gate, and compression. So who appointed you to be the "helpful post" police...
