Most economical way to achieve THIS sound.

Also he uses a lot of compression and probably a limiter. I think that might be the "quality" you're hearing. You get those for free as plugins. So if you haven't tried that first, then.. do that and see if you really need better gear. Because, again, if it's for streaming, you won't really get...

Most economical way to achieve THIS sound.

All you need is a decent audio interface and a condenser mic like the SE2200a. It's really good for the price. For your use, I'd go for a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 as the audio interface. It has preamps in it and phantom power. You do not need a mixer or a good preamp, especially since this goes...

HELP! Recording on Friday, and unsure which mics or setup to use to capture podcast..

I haven't done that either, but I don't think using condenser mics would be a good idea since it would capture the ambience (people moving, stretching, breathing, chuckles etc) of the room. But maybe you want that? Or is the speaking the main important thing? I'd go with an sm57 on a stand...

    Les Pauls - I'm a convert(ish)

Ah, I see! Good to know! What is it then that makes cheaper guitars go out of tune so easily? The wood?

    recording bug

I went here for a recording of a bug. How is the keyboard connected to the Tascam? If it's digital it might have something to do with a sustain setting of some sort. Sorry, that's all I've got. I'm sure someone else will chime in.

Worst change to a guitar made by the manufacturer?

So wrong. It may play great though; I've never played it. But a "Jazzmaster"? Not convinced!

    Les Pauls - I'm a convert(ish)

Mine (Studio 96 I think) had the "Gibson Deluxe" tuners and they must have all been broken then, because they couldn't hold tune for shit. One of them (I think the D-string) was worse than the others. Once I got the Grover tuners they never slipped. But what do I know; maybe putting new Deluxe's...

    Les Pauls - I'm a convert(ish)

Yeah, the Deluxe tuners really suck. Do they still use them? What I did was change them to Grover tuners on mine.

    Writing songs in dreams?

I never wrote a song in my sleep, but..... "It came to me in a dream. I was living in Tennessee with Guy and Susanna Clark, and I was asleep, and I had a notepad by my mattress - I had a mattress on the floor. I was dreaming that I was a folk singer, and this was the song I played, and I...

    Eddie Vedder Rise Cover

The record this song is on is brilliant for the road and on mountain hiking trips, so I was excited to find a cover of it here. The link doesn't work though! I checked out your account and really liked the Nick Drake-cover. Vocals should be a bit louder in the mix though.

    The New Tone Thread

I know exactly what you mean. I usually end up hating my songs before even finishing them. That's why I've got like 90 projects, but hardly ever finish anything. But yeah, really dude. It sounds awesome.

    read before asking questions

So.. I should have diffusors instead of my panels at first reflection points? It's kind of confusing how there are so many different perspectives on these things.. Sometimes I wish I could just :RTFM: and be done with it.

Wow. It's really inspiring to hear what can be done in home studios. This sounds like it was recorded in a pro studio. And the song is really well written. Great stuff!
