    They Don't

Added mix 2 up on the top post based on a few of your suggestions. Seems to gel up a lot better. Thanks!

    They Don't

Hey thanks! I think overall the drums need to come down. I can't get rid of the room in the drums, but I can drop the level of the verb I was using to glue things together, because it's not gluing things together :-) Will try bumping up the first verse volume a little, and panning the guitar...

    They Don't

Haven't recorded a full track in over two years, but as threatened I am back in business. Sold my gear when I left the old house and been Craigslisting my way back to a setup. Now I'm in a new house with a new setup. Recorded this track yesterday. I'm a little shaky from being out of practice...

DBSTRD - "Everything Again" (80s indie popisch)

I haven't listened to the latest version - but I've always had a problem with my mixes in the 1.5 to 2 k range, especially with compression/limiting. It can be really grating if this range builds up and a lot of speakers/headphones emphasize this area. Maybe that is what Robus is talking about...

Cheap standalobe recorder for live drums

B&H is awesome and open boxes are the bomb. I know it's impossible to believe (haha) but many times people buy something, use it for what they temporarily need it for and then return it. Other times people buy stuff, don't have the patience to work through any issues encountered and return it...

Cheap standalobe recorder for live drums

This Zoom (or equivalent Tascam) works great. The built in stereo mic setup is surprisingly good. If you want to you can add two more mics via XLR. Has phantom.. I've used this setup with the onboard stereo and a kick through XLR and it worked well. Amazon.com: Zoom H4N Digital Multitrack...

playing acoustic guitar with a thumb instead of a pick

Thought this thread was interesting for some reason. I used to play with my thumb. Over time a little callous will form just to the left of the nail, kind of like a really dull pick :-)

DBSTRD - "Everything Again" (80s indie popisch)

Well I can tell you that you are well on your way to nailing the sound, trust me I lived through it and I also love to make 80's indie pop :-) The instrumentation is spot on. Bass and guitars sound especially tasty. Couple thoughts Mix is overly dark. Nothing really shines. You can have dark...

Solid wood flooring versus affordable laminate flooring

One of the the biggest differences is that hardwoods can be refinished - laminates can't. Another option is engineered hardwoods, but not necessarily less expensive than real hardwoods :-) I don't really like laminates, but that is a personal opinion...

Anyone else using Garritan CFX Concert Grand?

I'm blown away by the Garritan CFX, anyone else using it? Most of the reviews say something along the lines of this - “The best point of all is that you very quickly forget you are playing a virtual piano as it feels so much like you are playing the genuine article.”, and I actually am finding...

    Essentials for home recording

Recording interface - $800 or less

That is the million dollar question. Will spending more money on an interface, pre or microphone make any *MEANINGFUL* difference in sound quality? In my experience as a home recordist the answer is no.
