writing lyrics with lots of "i/me/you/we"

George Harrison wrote a song about this. It was the last new song the Beatles ever recorded. It's called "I Me Mine". There are many Beatles fans who hate this song, I am not one of them. Chuck

    u3

Hey all, Super excited. Been looking for a new piano for 2 years, finally found "the one" and pulled the trigger. It's a minty fresh 77 Yamaha U3 (tallest upright they make), plays like butter, sounds like thunder. It's a massive upgrade from my previous P22. Gets delivered tomorrow morning...

Rhythm Section Want Ad - VHS covers TMBG

Smoking good job!!! One of my favorite bands. Saw them live a couple times back in the day - quite an experience. You did this justice.

    "The time is Magic"

Sounds great, obviously lots of care taken with everything. I would kill for that wah sound. I like the idea of a walking bass line in a track like this too. You do a good job with the thick layered vocals. Anything I could say is personal opinion. The drums are great but I wonder what it...

    Any secrets to DI-ing Bass?

Most Motown stuff was DI, fwiw. A MIM P-bass, direct, overdriven a little with big flatwounds will get you most of the way there. I found flatwounds really bothersome to play at first but ended up loving them. Also try slow attack when you compress so the initial pluck comes through, that is a...

    Which presonus to buy?

The VSL lets you use some presonus effects on the input channel with super low latency. So you can monitor with a compressor, eq, and verb while you record and there isn't any noticeable latency. It's a proprietary thing and no longer works on the Mac, but still works fine on Windows. Chuck

Recording Tame Impala Rock-style Drums with only 4 Mics

I could be misreading - but the K2 wasn't for kick (based on the text), it was for an overhead. The peluso (based on the text) was used as the overhead for a different session. But anyway, not really quibbling - I think any decent LDC would do for the overhead. I think a 57 is fine for kick, and...

    pawn shop deal.

I used to go back when their were pawn shops on 14th street in DC. They were always way over priced. Only real score I ever did was an ampeg jet - the only amp I still own and use.

It's the little things - RODE microphones

I think I've had mine for about 20 years now. Love it, though it is a little worse for wear.... One funny thing is that there are Rode counterfeits out there now, a sure sign of success :-)

Singer + Acoustic Guitar: How to comp/correct voice and guitar tracks afterward?

+1 - I do find that sharing in the clinic is a great way to get to the bottom of stuff

"Evil Little B". Low end sound OK?

2009 Dodge Grand Caravan Minivan (no kicker lol) AKG 240 MKII Cans Way over the top on the low end, seriously overwhelming. Don't think it's just my ears - I listen to mixes in that car constantly (3 hours total daily commute). Others can chime in on whether I am smoking crack :-)

"Evil Little B". Low end sound OK?

Kick is way way way too loud. Single loudest element in the mix by far. Whatever volume maximizer or limiter you have on the mains is insanely hot. Don't think I can comment on the low end until you knock that stuff into shape

No problems here. I misunderstood. That's the way the internet works :-)

Singer + Acoustic Guitar: How to comp/correct voice and guitar tracks afterward?

I never said anything about perfect and my stuff is so far from perfect it hurts. What I said was 'solid performance' and 'great live take'. We musicians who also happen to record, unless we are engineers who happen to write songs. Either way works, but I hardly consider my advice 'bad' or...

IR and convolution on cans - how far we are from this?

I don't have speakers anymore and have been reduced to cans. It takes me an average of 30+ tweaks to my rough and listening on car, buds, radio, stereo and other stuff to get the mix anywhere close. All in all it takes me about 2 weeks to get anywhere a mix I like. After about 2 months of this...
