    Precious Moment (Pop)

I guess I am wondering what you mean by pitch? Pitching it as a composition? As a finished work? For airplay? (whatever that that means now), for film soundtrack?. Anyway - I am not sure, but I don't think things work like that anymore. For example - who would you be pitching it to? Gimme...

The Luckiest man in the World

That is funny man. I can attest that with a kid in college, our college radio ain't their college radio. I usually just start grumbling wtf is that when my kid starts playing some 128 soundcloud stream over bluetooth to a mono speaker lol.

The Luckiest man in the World

I love, love love the synths on this track - right up my alley. The vocal feels like it's floating over a bed track for some reason - I would love to hear it smashed, put some grit and maybe a hard pan delay on it and drop it down. Of course that's 90% stylistic choice, but I think it would...

Guitar tones are sick, love it. If I could do anything more than talk sing I would be all over it :-)

    Rise Up - Original

I was feeling what you are feeling, but I can tell you the bass is very, very much there if you are specifically listening for it (at least on my setup)- it's just fighting something else for frequency space. If he just turns it up something else weird will happen - it has so much energy it...

    when I was alive

Added mix 4. * Dropped strings in chorus by 1 db * Dropped solo guitar in chorus by 2 db * Raised vocal in chorus by .5 db Thanks to everyone for the incredibly helpful feedback. I think I am moving on - there's lots of ropey playing and mistakes and stuff but I would save that for a redo...

    Believe

I don't really have any mix advice, and to answer your question about vocals - no issues at all - they work perfectly. I love this track. Sure you could try different compression or verb, but it wouldn't make this objectively better. I would let it stand.

That's the first thing I thought, early floyd - not imitative but just evokes that 'vibe' - and it feels really genuine, it's nearly impossible to fake. Can't really fault the verb cause people have been chasing me for using too much verb for the past 30+ years :-)

    when I was alive

Thanks to everyone who replied, really great feedback. I put mix 2 up top in the original post. * cleaned out a bunch of low end sludge * got rid of a bunch of effects * eq/compressed bass differently * Changed synth patch and panning in chorus * Changed guitar, panning and eq in the chorus *...

    when I was alive

Hey all, thanks for the great feedback. I can hear any/all issues mentioned now that I have a little distance on the original recording mix. Will hit this up tonight and see what I can do. I am terrible at getting loud distorted guitars to lay in a mix, that is for sure. I do want it to be...

    when I was alive

Hi, thanks for checking it out. When you say can't really hear the bass - do you mean in the choruses because it is being drowned out, or do you mean you never hear adequate bass...

Blue Light - New Track - First Mix

I will check it out, not presumptuous - I think I've been knocking around this room for 8 years or so now soliciting feedback and I always like/welcome your input.

Blue Light - New Track - First Mix

Hey thanks for checking it out. I wear my Lou on my sleeve that is for sure. Been a fan since my buddy turned me on to the velvets back in high school. I am really getting into the drum recording and playing - huge transition from years of drum machines and ekits. Watching and listening to...

Blue Light - New Track - First Mix

Always welcome your observations and ideas about structure and you have a knack for describing parts in words. I could hear everything you described :-). My piano is outrageously out of tune and I can't get a tuner in cause of situation. Definite clash on one note in particular - it's crazy...

Blue Light - New Track - First Mix

I never minded comparisons. Love the Go Betweens. I've never been a fan of my voice and I always lean towards burying - raising that level always comes with way too much self consciousness and hand wringing, but it seems to work out for the better on this track :-) Thanks for listening.

Blue Light - New Track - First Mix

Retro is what I was shooting for so cool :-) The drum sound is getting really close to what I have in my head, and I spent lots of time on youtube looking at old recording stuff for drums. The stereo ribbon makes it kinda close to point and shoot. Thanks for checking it out.

Blue Light - New Track - First Mix

Drums are single cascade stereo ribbon overhead and SM-58 on kick. It is pretty much the sound I was going for, but in first couple mixes I had WAY too much high end boost on the overheads. I used the exact approach you mention. I have a bus with just drums, then add bass, then mix the rest...

Blue Light - New Track - First Mix

Thanks heat. I agree the drums work much better. I don't think I did anything to the guitar except lower it a little because it kept poking out at my ears, though I might have lowered the compressor threshold. Will check it out.
