    XLR-Jack-Speaker-thingamajig question

1/4" is not necessarily always mono. You're better off using the terms TS and TRS. The signal itself determines whether it's mono or stereo. Just because something is unbalanced doesn't mean it's "unprofessional" A guitar output is unbalanced...but you wouldn't say a professional guitarist is...

    mic clipping on 003Rack

yeah, there's no pad on the 003 You're actually clipping on the channel fader, yes? Not just hearing distortion...but you actually SEE red lights turning on in PT? With a dynamic mic like the 57 and the 003 XLR mic input turned all the way down...you shouldn't be clipping. Even if you were...

Pro tools 8 mbox no input when recording???

first let's start with how you have things set up. The mic you are using...is it a condenser? If so, do you have the 48V phantom power turned on? Second, are you plugging in via XLR? Third, what is your input set to on your mono audio track?

    Gapless Playback

part of it has to do with how you bounce your track...and the other part has to do with what software you use to master the CD the easy way, bounce the entire session as one file and then use CD Architect (or another REAL CD authoring program) to create the track markers. Then burn it using CD...

    m firewire 410 vs mbox2? help

if you want it, grab it. However, it won't be compatible with the version of PT you're using right now. The Mbox uses PT LE while the 410 needs PT M-Powered...which you will need to purchase separately.

    Slow tempo to transcribe song

there's a program called Transcribe! which I like. You might try that. It allows you to loop a section and also helps you analyze chords. Windows Media Player has a "playback speed" control that allows you to slow it down.

    Slow tempo to transcribe song

Shift+Space bar will give you half-speed playback (or shift+click the play button) Know that it drops your audio an octave, though

which may explain the pops and clicks he's still getting. I don't have a fast track ultra 8r...but he should be able to change the hardware I/O to external and leave the internal PT clock as the master. The M300 is looking for a master clock (the original source) and is spitting out the same...

were they advertised as actual S/PDIF cables? i would try new cables first. If you can't run out and grab the orange S/PDIF ones...at the very least, grab some of those yellow RCA composite video cables you might have sitting around left over from a DVD player or TV purchase or something.

which one solved it for you (just in case anyone else comes along with the same question)? What kind of cables are you using? Real s/pdif cables or just plain red/white RCA cables?

from your manual: This setup is ideal if you are using the M300 as a digital insert effect on your harddisk recording system. wait until you try Elastic Audio...pretty much takes the place of Beat detective :) unfortunately you won't be able to use your PCI cards. Right click the icon, properties, compatibility. if that doesn't work try reading over this: http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=234575&highlight=0xc000001d sounds like the compatibility problem might be the processor.
