    Tama Superstar Custom

It is the most popular size but it doesn't mean that it's "better" or more people will like it. I think a 22" is a versatile drum for rock, jazz or country but if you're playing rock or punk and want a heavy or punchy kick sound, a 24" will sound bigger because it is bigger. As they say in...

suggestions for getting a new snare

I agree. I hate that prick and Metallica sucks now anyway.

    Tune the drums higher.

    Tama Superstar Custom

Get a used kit with a bigger bass drum. A 14x24 or a 16x24 will have a better sound for rock and hard core.

    Zildjian or Sabian

I've seen them all broken. They all break regardless of brand. They all make good stuff and they all make crap ( like the ZBT and the Piaste 302 shit for example) but they all make great sounding cymbals.

suggestions for getting a new snare

You want a good versatile snare drum with good ring and tone? Then get a Ludwig Acrilite!!! They're a 5x14 Aluminum shell, 8 lug and thy're about $150 used. I have one and it's an awesome drum. You can get the best sounds out of it and it is very versatile. I use a clear ambassador snare on the...

New to drums - help deciding on which kit

LOL! I agree. The snare will change the sound of the whole kit. I wouldn't skimp on the snare. Yamaha makes great snares and you can never go wrong with the ol' reliable Ludwig Acrilite. Great sounding and affordable drum.

    cymbal set-up

Nice. I like that crash. It's nice to have at least one large crash. My current set up is: 15" Zildjian A New Beat hi hats 18" Zildjian A Medium Crash 20" Zildjian A Custom Ride (used as a crash) 24" Zildjian A Medium Ride I'd like to ad another crash, maybe a 19" A Medium Thin Or an A Custom...

    Zildjian or Sabian

All cymbals break regardless of brand. Zildjian, Sabian and Piaste all have great sounding stuff. I like the Paiste 2002 series and the Zildjian A's and A Custom series the best. No brand is better than the other, it's just personal preference.

New to drums - help deciding on which kit

If you're playing rock, then I suggest at least a 22" kick drum. It's versatile enough for everything. I also think you'd be better off with a floor tom like a 16x16, again a very versatile size drum. 12" 13" 16" toms with the 22" kick are standard and are all good for rock, blues and jazz. I'd...

I think we just found the problem. Experience makes you wise.

    Cut and Paste drummers... Venting...

Ahhh, he's one of those drummers who can't tune. Nothing is more annoying than a drum kit that sounds like shit. I know guys like that who think they have to tune everything "low" and the drums have no tone whatsoever. Especially the snare!! You gotta have a good snare sound IMO. They've all...

    Cut and Paste drummers... Venting...

Then someone is doing something wrong. Either you can't mix, or you can't tune the drums. He's right. You guys are playing Metal, not Jazz or Fusion. If you're playing Fusion or jazz then smaller toms are cool but for rock or metal they just don't cut it. Then you need to learn how to mix and...

    bright cymbals vs. dark cymbals

Depends on the music. I use "A Mediums" and "A Customs." I also like the "A Medium Thins" but nothing smaller than a 17" for me. Like I said, it depends on what you're playing.

Can you recommend my second Electric Guitar

Carvin has some good stuff but their guitars suck IMO. Maybe an Epiphone SG or Les Paul copy. I'd sell you my Epiphone SG but I live in OR. Good luck.

    Zildjian A Ping Ride

A custom Ping Ride and the A Ping Ride are different. With the A custom, you'll get more wash. The A's are more pingy yet you can still crash on them if you needed to. I have a 20" A custom Ride (not a ping ride) and I use it as a crash because it's ride qualities are lacking. A 22" A Medium...

tuning pegs and screws that hold them in - lost

Spank ALL the kids to make sure you get the right one! Or at least threaten to, usually someone will squeal on the one who actually did it. Then spank the one who broke the guitar, then spank the others for lying about it. Then after it's fixed, lock it up.

    Big amps - Why?

I agree on the small amps for recording. YOu don't need to be that loud to record. Just enough to get a little feedback, depending what you're doing.

    Big amps - Why?

Ahhh, the advantage of Pro-Tools and other recording software. I believe if you're a real good band live, then you won't need all the studio gimmics. I've had people tell me that my amp was "so fucking loud" and I have a 60w Fender DeVille 2x12 combo and the volume was only about half way. You...

    Agile guitars?

I've played one and they're quite nice for the price. My friend has one and it's not a bad guitar. They've got a maple neck instead of mahogany.
