Don't stick the mic inside the drum. The audience does not want to hear the inside of the drum. I have a ported kick head and I stick the mic right in front of the hole and I get the sound of the kick, NOT the inside of it!

I agree!!! Sometimes, i wish i had mics on the toms because there are times when the toms aren't present enough in the overheads. However, most of the time they are. That extra mic might just be what I need to enhance the toms a little bit.

This works great for me. I never have a problem with this set up.

My experience is when kept in the cases, the "fur" inside the cases tends to "buff" the strings and I have to change them ALOT more often. However, the case is the safest place.

I use the 21" Sweet ride as a crash. I hardly use it as a ride anymore. I use a 24" A Medium ride. The Sweet ride is an excellent crash. It is also a good ride if you know how to hit it. For a big crash in a song, sometimes I'll crash on the 21 AND the 24 together!!!
