    Rmgi lpr-35 tape

It's the 46 range model, the most expensive model. I don't think it's the multimeter, I tested it with a friends and had the same result. It almost seems like someone did a mod to it that disables bias calibration....is that even possible? Super weird. Even when I adjust the pots on the bias...

    Rmgi lpr-35 tape

I have a radio shack one, time for me to upgrade I think, I have the range set right, at it's lowest, it's set mv, and I just think it's too low for it to read. I'm borrowing a friends, to test and make sure that's the issue. Your Tascam 388 story, accompanied by the manual, and the tape op 388...

    Rmgi lpr-35 tape

I record enabled all tracks. Record mode? Record/play so that the tape is running/recording? That's what I've been assuming. I'm gonna feel a little silly if there is an actual record mode setting that I'm unaware of. Thanks for the help! Again! :)

    Rmgi lpr-35 tape

That would be awesome! That's kind of what I thought. I will mention that I had the 388 worked on by Condor electronics in Fremont, couple years ago, and he actually calibrated it for 499, and he said it should be fine, just maybe slightly brighter. I decided to take shot at changing it, and...

    Rmgi lpr-35 tape

Yeah I realized that after looking again, it is 3,600'. The 7" reel with 1800' was $30....apparently I don't read so good :) There is $20 difference for a metal reel though. I did just spend some serious time a/b comparing the LPR-35 to my roll of 457 (just a guitar through a DI), and there was...

    Rmgi lpr-35 tape

Aaaaanddd, answered my own question. Metal reel, vs plastic reel......that's the difference. Sheesh. :/

    Rmgi lpr-35 tape

I was just about to order a new roll or two of tape for my Tascam 388 online at Full Compass. I bought a few rolls a couple years ago, and I remember there only being one version of the LPR35 which was around $50. Now I see 2 different versions, 34512 for $50, than there is 34520, which is $70...

Help me decide on a new microphone, please!!

Blue Mic's are a bit underrated. I own a blue mouse, with the transformer, and it is a wonderful mic. great on bass drum, bass amp, and one of my favorite vocal mics, run it through a UA 610 and it's something special. I think some folks don't like how they have there own color/sound.

Works! Bios PCB1, with the master oscillator, popped the new card in, all tracks record! Thanks for the input, totally dead on!

What mics should I buy for drum overheads?

Like you, I use a d112, 57, and use Glyn Johhs technique, which I use a pair of PPA ribbons(pacific pro audio, Chinese import ribbons, with a few better quality mods, great for $200 I think they are the same as the apex 210), and I love the sound, very late 60's, which is what I always go for...

Who's cheap gear do you trust the most?

Peavey Classic 30 was an awesome little amp, at least 20 years ago when I owned one. Wish I would have kept that amp....I could say that about a handful of crap I sold so I could buy the next amp I lusted after.

Microphone for around $350? (preferably below)

Definitely SM7b For my money, no mic comes close....if I could only have one mic to make a full record, that would be it. A must have all around mic, and fantastic on vox. (wish I would have known that 10 years ago)

    UA Solo 610 NOS TUBES

I've had this pre-amp for 4 years, and I've never been fully satisfied with it, never met my expectations. So, I decided to go ahead and upgrade the tubes. I ordered NOS tubes, a Mullard GT7 and a GE 12ax7, they cost me a little over $100 all together. WELL WORTH IT! I expected a subtle...

    Tascam 388 Story...

Well, the issue is definitely in the bios pcb 1, which is the one that has the bios osc module. There just so happened to be a 388 bios pcb, with the osc module on ebay for $25 (supposedly fully functioning). I'll have it Monday, swap it out, and cross my fingers. If it works, I'll crack a beer...

Cool, I will give that a try, and if I am unable to get anywhere, I'll throw up a new post. Really appreciate the advise. Sweetbeats, you have no idea how much I've learned from following your "story" posts" over the years. Super cool stuff! I bought my 388 about a week before you posted you...

    Tascam 388 Story...

Man, I was wondering why I couldn't get a vhs tape to fit in there:) Quantegy 457 and the RGMI equivalent, which it's been calibrated to. It's actually both the rec portion of the rec/playback head and the erase seems to not be working. Playback works though. I should probably create a new post...

    VU bulbs in the 388

I replaced mine a few years ago, and at the time I was super new to soldering and I still had no problems. Was able to get them from a random supplier on the east coast, I ended up getting a few new meters as well (can't remember on top my head the supplier but they were great to deal with, had...

    Tascam 388 Story...

Hello, I posted a couple questions a couple years ago, and to update, my 388 got all fixed up, and has ran perfectly for a couple years now.....until now. I must apologize for not being a very good member of the forum and only posting when stuff breaks, but I'm in a bit of a bind. Started on...
