I want the sound to be as close to uncolored, unaltered, what goes in is what comes out
(for what can be acheived at this price point (secondary disclaimer: I realize that I'm not going to get the same results as a professional recording studio is capable of, as I don't know anything about...
I'm a newb, I don't know what popular and reputed. My list will come from a musiciansfriend search. and then you'll be saying why didn't you let someone else do it.
I'd be happy to make the poll if someone gives me a list or links to where I can get one
Since I whole lot of people on the under 300 thread voted save up, and mentioned the grace 101, and another one... block or brick something which are priced around 600 new, seeing what everyone thinks at a higher price point would be interesting, if someone knowledgeable could list the popular...
I've been frustrated with a very entry level recording setup (mxlv67g > tubepre > emu 1212m), the recordings don't have any presence, my friend makes better recordings using his MD player and its mic.
I've come back to this site after a few months. Just came across thelisteningsessions.com...
Is the 1820m the only <$500 soundcard that has phantom power preamps? RME, I could only find one on the $1500 fireface 800.
Also is the one on the 1820m good, would it be better than the entry levels preamps available? (tubepre, studio mp, et.c)
can the software have an effect on the sound quality?
Before I was using Cubasis VST 4 that came with my emu 1212m soundcard. Now I tried Cubase SX and it seems to sound much better. Placebo effect or no?
As I had said, I played with the gain and drive a whole lot at several distances.
More clearly I guess, when I'm singing at low volumes, I can get close to the mic and it sounds decent. Still pretty crappy compared to the crystal clear, perfect warmth, just right distance sound of professional...
Hi thanks for advice so far. I read through the emu 1212m manual (computer soundcard). It said that for best quality the input should be set at a gain so that the peak meter is in the "yellow" region. This starts at -10. If I then set the level for gain higher in the soundcard, the main mix...
I have a marshall v67g. When I record vocals 1-2 feet away, it sounds really harsh, congested, thin, not resonant, etc. It doesn't sound real. When I record from 4-5 feet away and put the gain pretty high up on my preamp it sounds more real, and better.
I've tried playing with the preamp a...
I just did a comparison on that link for why headphones are bad for mixing.
I don't think I'm mixing? I just want an accurate sound of what I sound like. I tried to do the test of listening to something with headphones and then speakers, and it's suppose to show that the highs are much more...
i want to know exactly what I sound like. On the listening end I've got a hi-fi setup, but the recordings I can't really say aren't colored or are giving me a sound that seems good to me.
I've got about 200 dollars to spend, and want to get advice for what I should upgrade one compenent of my equipment for better recording quality (solo vocal). Whatever I upgrade I will sell used, so will add into the 200 price limit.
For example, if the recommendation is to upgrade the...
