    Keyboard synthesiser or Midi controller?

I'm going to disagree with the previous poster. You'll want a midi controller if : 1) You just want to control soft synths in your DAW and you really don't want to buy a whole synth to do this 2) You just want to control your myriad 3) you want the controls on a specific controller. 4) You...

    ADAT PCI Card

Are we talking lightpipe here? When you say 8 channels, are you talking 1 ADAT channel for 8 audio channels, or do you want 8 ADAT channels as in connecting 8 ADAT devices. I just got an MAudio Profire Lightbridge which gives me 4 ADAT channels (32 channels of audio at < 96k). In the latter...

    Girlfriend wants weighted keys

There are reasons there are so many different feels available - if a company has the ability to make a keyboard with a feel that appeals to different players, then they can cater to a niche market. FWIW, I don't think Toddskins was arguing against weighted action, he merely indicated that he...

    A good 88key mastercontroller

Other than having no customizable controllers, customizable pedal input, or zones. Don't get me wrong, I love Studiologic, and my main studio controller is a Studiologic. But the models you and I have are not really controllers in the modern sense like the Maudio controllers and CME controllers.

Is it common for drummers to record to a click track?

The click may be mechanical, but the playing doesn't have to be.

    pci (audio/midi interface) cards w/wo pre-amp/mixer

Count yourself lucky to get any responses in the future - self-entitled little kids are generally ignored. No one owes you a response, but I'm in a generous mood today, so count yerself lucky. The pre-amps on a soundcard are microphone preamps and have nothing to do with output levels...

    mixing keys

Note I said rarely - there are times when you want somethiong going on in the left hand. I will double a bass figure for effect, and in some arrangements you can feature something on the left hand - look at Stevie Wonder's Superstition and Play That Funky Music. WHat is important to note is that...

    mixing keys

In fact, I take this one further and RARELY play any chord voicings with my left hand when playing with a bass player. This is especially true when playing with a guitar players. As already mentioned, it's all in the arrangement. You have to find your space. Guitar players are generally really...

Do you really buy that expensive recording software?

As far back as I remember, the term "sequencer" also refers to audio sequences. But maybe that's just me :)
