    What DAW are you using?

I recently bought an Akai MPK MiniMK3 controller which came with MPC Beats. I liked the Beats software so much that I upgraded to the full MPC version. I have been using Reaper, which is a good DAW but it has too many ways to do the same thing (IMO). I like the midi capabilities of MPC.

Should you buy a pedal steel guitar

Rusty Young was a dang good picker. I liked Poco but I never got into them to the point that I could name or recognize all their songs. Good luck on the sideways guitar man.

Should you buy a pedal steel guitar

I agree dogooder. When I started PSG I was already playing guitar so I had an idea how to construct chords. I would think starting off on pedal steel having not played any other instruments would be difficult because you are trying to learn about music along with learning how to play an...

    TASCAM DR22WL

I looked at the manual for that recorder. If you are trying to play back thru the internal speaker, make sure the speaker is turned on. Menu/Tool/Speaker

Recording accoustic guitar: Getting rid of pick noise

My wife got me a pick-making machine a few years ago. :-) It looks kind of like a stapler and you insert any kind of flat stock, squeeze it (like a stapler) and it cuts out a pick from the flat stock. So I tried lots of different flat stock materials. Credit cards work okay. Anyway, I tried the...

Greg's general guide to rock drums for NEWBIES!

And that is why I only do virtual drums anymore. :P I've spent so much money on doing drums for recordings. I even had a very nice Gretsch kit in my music room (that I tripped over no less than a dozen times :-) ) Well that, and I can't play drums very well. The first time I dragged a...

Should you buy a pedal steel guitar

I've been a pedal steel player for a little over a half of a century. :-) I think one of the hardest things for a new player to get used to is wearing and using finger picks. They feel very weird until you get used to them. When I see non-steel players sit down at a PSG they usually grab a flat...

    What DAW are you using?

Earlier this year I switched to a DAW from my Tascam DP24SD, and I chose Reaper mainly because of the tutorials and other information available online. I'm liking Reaper a lot. There are so many ways to configure it and it seems to be very stable.

    Boss BR600 question

Br600 Yes,, the converter software imports & exports using wave files. I use the converter to import & export, & set the BR600 to Utilities/USB/Backup and then do everything with the wave converter. Most of the time I mix in the BR600 but when I need more than 6 tracks, I export the tracks to...

    Boss BR 600 Digital Recorder

I put a 1 gig card in mine and that allows me to take full advantage of the V-tracks without being concerned about running out of memory. It is advertised as an 8 track machine but it is really 4 mono tracks and two stereo tracks which in my book is 6 tracks. I like laying down 4 mono tracks...

data transfer from Boss BR 8 to computer or VS2480

The BR8 files can only be converted to wav files outside of the unit. I used a zip drive on my computer and the wav conversion software from Boss.

Strat Tremelo model... do they stay in tune?

I use a Tremsetter. These are manufactured by Hipshot and also sold by Fender. It allows you to set your strat up with a floating tremolo, without a couple of the problems associated with this type of setup. You can bend notes without the other strings going flat. It's also easier to tune up...

    br-8 recording w/line in

If you just push the line in button, they are not panned. They are panned after recording with the line in. Just push the pan button after recording and you can see. Of course if you are using the line in to record to only one track, there is no panning.

Anybody know a little about peadle steel?

I got a demonstration of a Triton keyboard a while back at Guitar Center. The player did some very cool pedal steel licks with it. I guess the real trick to this is not just having a good pedal steel patch, but also playing the instrument like a pedal steel. I'll second the Carter Starter...

Anybody know a little about peadle steel?

My favorite steel is the Emmons. And I want to stress that is just my opinion. I own one of thier newer guitars as well as a '69 model. Today I am not aware of any bad steel manufacturers. If you go to the steel guitar forum, there is a link page. There you will find a "Steel Guitar...

What's the difference between square neck Dobros and round? Besides the obvious!

On a square neck resonator, the strings are elevated off the neck to facilitate playing with a bar. On a round neck, the strings are close to the neck and can be fretted just like a convetional guitar. There are risers that you can buy that fit over the nut and elevate the strings. You don't...

Anybody know a little about peadle steel?

I play an Emmons SD-10 LeGrande III. This is a single neck steel with 10 strings. It has 3 pedals and 5 knee levers. The purpose of the knee levers and the pedals are to raise and lower notes. The strings are raised and lowered with the changer. If your are sitting behind the guitar in the...
