Maybe I'm old school, and need to learn a new trick.
Since your monitors are supposed to provide a flat response... and most music will not heard on systems with subwoofers... what do you gain by using a subwoofer to mix with?
Is this another way to achieve a "far-field" mix?
There's no hard and fast rule regarding height... it all comes down to potential.
You can surround your house with lightning rods... and your home can still be struck by lightning.
Not to throw a monkey wrench in the works, but...
Lightning strikes are actually started at ground. Yep. Earth. Terra Firma.
The potential builds up, and then a leader heads up towards the skies. Once that potential has been recognized as the least resistant path to ground, the gap is closed...
Surge protection and lightning protection are two different things.
A lightning arrester is a device that provides an air gap between the supply conductors and ground... spaced far enough to not short under normal load, but allow a lightning spike a quicker path to ground - should one occur on...
I'll throw you an extra bone...
Judging from your current level of knowledge and expertise - are you sure that the card you have selected is the best for your situation?
Just asking...
I would burn CD's... and take those with me... not the HD.
The CD's will probably be more use to you in the new location, whereas installing a HD could be another issue.
Getting a 2nd HD for your system for backup is a good idea, too.
I used to look at it this way...
The kind of musicians that YOU are going to get to record, are not likely to have a bunch of cash laying around. Shit... they're lucky if they can buy any decent instruments.
When they get to record... they are getting studio practice - which is exactly what...
From the website:
OK, I had just the BEST time today! I'm trying to learn my way around my new Roland V-Drums, and I thought I'd fulfill a minor fantasy of mine. You may not know this, but I have a relatively famous relative; my mother's first cousin (I guess that makes him my second cousin?)...
I finally got NWR to let me download this latest version.
You are further out in the mix than I previously thought. I think it's mayber overworking the de-esser that fooled me.
It's a fat mix, and definitely translates on studio monitors better than my home computer.
It might have also...
It's funny, but the last time I wrote anything (which were lyrics... and some pretty good ones, at that) was when I was running sound for a band.
They had a cool tune started, and the singer and I put our heads together and came up with some appropriate lyrics.
The guitarist (who gave birth to...
You might try performing a search, as this topic has been covered a few times.
Many songwriters find it easier to write the music first... then the lyrics and melody. Others write poetry that is set to music. And still others have a melody in mind while writing lyrics. There's no "right" or...
I would imagine that it would depend upon the size of the band, the size of the drum kit, and whether or not you want to try to track them all at once.
The main thing would be to be able to track a complete drum kit at once... cause everything else could be done later.
If you are working with...
Well, I got the chance to listen to it over at Olivia's and the vocals were further out front than they were at my house... so now I'm at the office trying to download it to my DAW... and I can't get anything downloaded from NWR - again - arggg!
I'll probably retract a lot of the previous post...
Mixing, like cooking, is a matter of taste...
I just listened to your mix of "Juliet" (on my home computer and mid-grade comp speakers) and here's my observations:
First and foremost... you've lost the intimacy of the song by burying the vocals behind the guitars. Maybe it's just the way it's...
