    DUMB QUESTION

Taken form the ASIO page Little bit smaller than the CIA though - gaffa PS. The ASIO you're asking about stands for Audio Stream In/Out

    title

Post count for the normal ones (Newbie, Senioor Member, Expert, Force OF Nature etc.). A lot of grovelling for custom titles (or being in the right place at the right time) :D

    Need a little advice

Nobody has mentioned n-track yet, which is by far the cheapest on the market, and features wise isn't too shabby. At $35, it really is good value. The one big diference with n-track over every other audio app is that it is written by one guy, and if you have a decent idea that could be...

    text-to-speech programs

ReadPlease uses the MS Text-To-Speech engine, which is a programmable COM object, so if you know a little visual Basic, then you can write your own app pretty easily to output the sound whereever you want. - gaffa

    You guys are kidding, right?

Having conducted my own tests, the only reliable way to record audio CD's is to hand etch them with the pointy end of a $2.00 compass and cheap magnifiying glass. Works every time, although the "burning" process can take some years. But that's the price you pay for quality in this day and age...

    Poor Quality MP3s

There are some De-Hissing plugins on the market - I think Steinberg make a variety. Not sure what they cost though. - gaffa

Pro's Prefer CD Mastering at 1X...and can hear the difference.

Bummer, I seem to have got into this thread a bit late.... I was intrigued by the concept of "digital degradation". Being a computer software kind of guy, I thought I'd see if I could "degrade" some digital stuff. So I put on my lab coat, got my pocket protector, thick glasses, ordered copious...

    n-tracks

I think Flavio (the guy who wrote/writes) sells it for a reasonable amount, and has proved that you don't have to charge like a wounded bull to make a decent program. The other programs out their are part of large companies - n-Track is written by the one guy. Don't be fooled - n-track is a...

    cda. compared to wav.

If you look at the file size of a .cda file, you'll see it 1K. The .cda files are just headers for the track on audio CD's. A wave file is the actual data. - gaffa

    Outlet Fun

you've got to remember Spider that australia has all power points earthed by law, and the majority of gear is also grounded, so we don't run into these problems so much - gaffa

    Dumbest Song Title

Two for you: Again Regurgitator have one called "I Sucked A Lot Of Cock To Get Where I Am", which is a nice ditty about the music biz, and a crew called Frenzal Rhomb have a great, albeit very short, tune call "I Know Why Dinosaurs Became Extinct, It's Cos They Learnt To Suck Their Own Cocks"...

    Problems with Ricoh r/rw

What is the burning software you're using? I seem to recall seeing certain Ricoh drives ahving dramas with either EZ-CD Creator or the one that comes with the drive (Fun CD?) I can't remember which though - gaffa

software to check for corrupted programs

While it isn't the complete answer, and it can be dodgy if you don't know what you're doing, using a proggie like RegClean or RegMaid to troll through the registry and find dodgy or unused entries might be useful. The only caveat is that you have to be really, really careful, cos playing with...

    dual boot question

Try Partition Magic by Power Quest. I've used it for a while and it does everything I need. It has got a decent bootloader system that handles dual booting very nicely. - gaffa

    binding posts.....

The binding posts will be the outputs of the amp to the speaker, so you'll need to use speaker cable. There are two ways of connecting to binding posts - first is to wrap the bare wire around the post and screww the top section down onto it, and the second is to use a type of plug called a...

How to ensure "clean power" in a studio?

Ideally, you want to have all your sound gear running on an entirely separate circuit. This means make sure your gear isn't plugged into a circuit that has lights (particularly flourescent lights) on it, fridges etc, or anything that could dirty the circuit. - gaffa

    Attn. Puter geeks! Problems!

Don't know if it's gonna help, but both fans should be running all the time - the power is pulled straight from the power supply. - gaffa
