Slightly OT: How do you clean your vinyl?

Keep an eye out for garage sales also. I picked up 300 records of a variety of music at a garage sale for a grand total of $20.00. The back of one is shown below. It was signed by a bunch of long gone New Orleans jazz players.

Slightly OT: How do you clean your vinyl?

You are correct on both points. I've only tried it a couple of times, but I was impressed both times and will do it more in the future.

    Interesting Ebay buy in Georgia?

If I had the bucks sitting around it would be time for a road trip.

Newbie Question - what the devil can I do with this?

I like your "stuff". Here's the second song done with the exact settings as the first. I didn't really play with it at all this time so the vocals are still too loud at this point. If I find time I may play a bit more later this evening...

Are these monitors ok? 2-way, passive, 100w max...

I'm going to have to throw out my JBL 4430's since they take speaker wire. :( All these years I thought I had a good pair of studio monitors. Taking speaker wires has nothing to do with whether they are a good pair of monitors. Being from Radio Shack, however, assures two things, that they...

    switched from logic to reaper

Well, cancel that statement completely. They have changed their prices. Obviously they have decided they weren't making enough money and had to rip more money out of the customers' pockets. The $60 level is now $40 and the $200 level is now $150. I get so pissed off when big companies do...

Newbie Question - what the devil can I do with this?

It seems to be a natural tendency to sing louder in the real performance than the sound check, after all you have all that adrenaline running during the performance. A good engineer should have realized that and started with levels low rather than high. As for what I did, I opened it in...

Newbie Question - what the devil can I do with this?

I played with it a bit, but, in many parts the vocal is so over powering that not much could be done. The engineer REALLY overdrove parts into serious clipping. Was there no sound check? Take a listen here: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=818206&songID=9634337

    Teac / Tascam 80-8

If I recall correctly (from my machine way back when), the record and playback heads were identical on the 80-8, so, in theory that should work. I believe they even have the same part number (check on the heads themselves). Run a test tape to verify playback frequency response.

How I recorded a live show, why it didn't work, and what I can do about it.

In Reaper, click "fx", pull up "ReaFir". Select under "Mode" "Subtract", "Edit Mode" "Precise". Check "Automatically build noise profile". Select a small area where you only have the noise you want to delete. Uncheck "Automatically Build Noise Profile". When you play it back it should...

I believe that's a data recorder. I don't know how it would handle audio.

    Double LP strange side orders

As long as we're having fun with this topic, I always thought that French Fries would be a strange side order with an LP. :)

    Teac X20-R?

I believe that's a quarter track auto reverse model. Teac typically used an "R" on the model number for auto reverse.

I have that same box set. Each record in the set has been played about 3-4 times as I transferred to other media over the years. :)

    Double LP strange side orders

This song (a terrible thing to do to a great song) is a Gypsy song sampled in several places. I wonder if the Enrico Rosenbaum estate got any royalties since he wrote the original that this is sampled from. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnba1fKRNZo...

    Double LP strange side orders

Gypsy was a Minneapolis band that went to LA and got signed there (to Metromedia and then RCA). They spent about half their time in each city for the next couple of years. They were the house band about a block from where I used to live (when they were in Minneapolis). I would see them just...
