    I'm in a pickle

I don't know where you're looking, but there are tons of USB interfaces out there. If you still want to run a firewire interface on a USB port, it's entirely possible. I do it all the time. You'll need to get a firewire to USB card. You can't just buy the first card you see, you'll have to check...

    What if my voice sucks?

I don't believe that at all. Anyone can do whatever they want, provided they put in the hours and train with the right people. If anything, starting early helps, a lot.

    What if my voice sucks?

Like, any other instrument, hone your skills. Work on it, practice hard, read about it, look at youtube singing videos. If you can, get lessons. How much you pay by the hour probably won't be up to you, he/she will have a rate. As for making yourself sound better, you can use a software like...

Hourly Rates for Vocal Tracking and Mixing

Go ahead. Which side are you on ? And as for answering the question, I probably wouldn't charge by the hour if I were you. You're just starting out, you don't have a range of equipment, a vast variety of mics to choose from, or a kick ass recording room. Just keep a set rate per song.

Speaker cab with a volume knob

I wonder is there's scope for rotary engines in Formula racing ? I've heard they get a lot of performance out of small engines.

    Hi-hat bleed.

Same here. And the little isolation cap for the mic works pretty good for me too. To the OP, what's your snare situation ? If you're damping it too much it could simply be a problem of not too much snare as opposed to too much HH.

    It's all in the presentation

If she does, I hope for her sake she doesn't try to tell everyone how good her USB mic is :D

    This is WAY COOL!!!

That is kinda neat. Would be more interesting if there were separate fx for each track though.

How to get a wide vocal sound in mixing?

Double track them, and pan them separately. Or do 3 takes, keep one in the middle, and 2 on each side. Keep the volume down on the ones you're panning, so it doesn't sound like different tracks. The idea is to get a full sound without making it sound messy. Goes without saying, the vocal...

    I hate reverb.

Yep, I like the plate reverb on drums, especially the snare.

    Double Tracking Vocals

Exactly, that's what I usually do. Bring in the double vocals in the chorus, makes it sounds richer and fuller, and gives the chorus a big impact too.

    What mic next?

Well, that depends purely on what you want to record. If you do want an SDC, it would be wise to get a matched pair, if you can. Recording an acoustic guitar with 2 SDCs comes out really neat.
