Note to self ! Turn off the phone

I was tracking my own vocals one time and got really into the song, afterwards remembered that my keys were in my pocket, man that was one I'd never had before.

I'm Getting an Obnoxious Noise on All My Recordings

Won't plugging it into a powered USB hub also give a separate ground or does that stay constant?

Cubase 5 - using acoustic drum recording to trigger MIDI information for Roland TD-20

Yes it will only work on direct micd drum tracks

Record through an old P.A. Amp for effects possibly?

The basis for my opinion lies mostly in my learning "creative spelling" in elementary school where they don't teach you vocabulary they have you experiment and sound out words to get their spelling and I can tell you that at 32 I still misspell certain words time and time again from bad...

Record through an old P.A. Amp for effects possibly?

I think that's wrong. At the basic level you need to know certain things and the reason behind them. Just fiddling with it doesn't make you a genius. You need to know the absolute basics an that is the level that the op seems to be.

Record through an old P.A. Amp for effects possibly?

I say keep it simple and learn your basics of signal chain. Why make impedance mismatch problems an issue at this point? You don't have to know how to rebuild an engine to drive a car. And if you want to learn how to rebuild an engine it helps to know how to drive the car

Recording with only a few Inputs.

I would record a stereo mix, have the band rehearse portions of the song and record then listen back and tweak mixer settings, then record again over and over until I was happy with the mix, that's pretty much all you can do with a two tracks.

    Euphonix System 5 MC

That room seems pretty small for such little bass trapping, did your designer show you the waterfall response of that room? And woof btw I remember some of your earlier "police" and "ATV" work:-)

Record through an old P.A. Amp for effects possibly?

The problem with experimentation when you're first starting out is that you don't really know what sounds good, when most people start out perceived loudness always sounds good which is why rookies always use EQ boosts instead of cuts and limit or compress everything, so I think in effect...

    Partitions...new word to me !?!?!?

Partitions are basically just a way of turning one physical drive into split "virtual" drives, has no effect on exporting anything.

    Amp modellers

I used the pod x3 and found it was a bit noisy itself. Now I use the simulated speaker out on my spider valve and I love the sound, if I can't mic I find it acceptable but I'll still put a mic on if I can.

    first mics

I personaly think MXLs sound like crap they range from thin and tinny to muddled and flat.

    cheap tom mic

No but when you have two floor toms and 5 rack toms things get a little muddled especially at the low end the low for Tom sounds closer to a kick and the mid floor Tom only slightly above that. More for separation than actual tone sorry for the confusion.

    Whatwhatwhat?!

I love the cla-2a on vocals. Takes me back to recording school when I actually could use an la2a

    cheap tom mic

I agree with this depending on the floor tom size, my drummer has two floor toms, but if we put "kick" mic on both they sound too similar, SM57 on one and d112 or B52 on second actually splits the tones a bit better I think but he loves buying stuff so we always have tons of mics to play with.

    Vocal mixing?!

Why are you using a ribbon mic for metal vocals? Seems a little counter intuitive.

    Vocal mixing?!

if you're asking where to steal plug ins I doubt this statement very much. CLA compressors bundle is on sale for $199 through end of the month. That's $150 off retail!

    DI Box Connections

I heard a di vs re amp ab on the home recording show with Ryan canestro and I could barely tell any difference but listen for yourself they have a whole episode on re amping. I think buried in a mix you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference.

    Vocal mixing?!

I never gate my vocal tracks, oa studio record there shouldn't be any noise between recording but that may be dependant on people's set ups. Also a de esser is almost always a must with a condenser at least a little. You probably want to add air to your vocals but doing so with only eq will...

Record through an old P.A. Amp for effects possibly?

Just find a hiss/hum plug in and save your time, there's a reason that realistic gear isn't popular, it's just noisy and adds no palatable sonic coloration.
