i found this site that posts microphone and preamp samples: http://www.thelisteningsessions.com/sessions.htm it seems like the audio technica mics (4050, 4047, etc) are mid heavy, and not as smooth as the nuemann tlm103 or some of the other ones. i don't think the audio technicas sound better...

big kenny, you suggest the mojave? that's one mic i know nothing about...doesn't seem to be available at many places. have you got one? what's it like?

oh, and i'll probably be using a freshly re-tubed VMP-2 with a drawmer dl241 or rnc...in case that helps.
