    Post Your Analog Recordings Here...

Another new one, all tracked and mastered on tape called Letter From London with accompanying video :guitar:

    Your input please...

I nearly bought one of these a few months ago, these seem to be more common than the Tascam 388's here down under. I heard many good things about them and like you, was very curious because it seemed like a bit of a hidden gem. Everyone I heard that used one seems to have had nothing but praise...

    Post Your Analog Recordings Here...

Another song from the same sessions as previous, also with accompanying video. This one is a bit more spaced out.

    Tascam M-___ Story...

Could very well be that something is still not right but to put it into perspective, my old Fostex 812 mixer had a SN ration of 53dB weighted (out of the factory) when all 12 MIC inputs are used. I know that after 20+ years it had drifted off spec considerably because I replaced it with a...

Thanks FB. Forgot to link that one, here you go.

    Post Your Analog Recordings Here...

Two songs recently recorded with my band (and with accompanying videos). Tracked and mixed on tape down to 1/4" stereo then final mix digitized and overall volume raised a bit. Songs are called 'Nightcats' and 'Everyday'

DAW chasing Tape (Reaper and MS-16)

I agree with Miroslav here, the problem is that the DAW is chasing the SMPTE time code which is printed on tape so the SMPTE is controlled by the tapes transport which is not synced to anything.

    Sad TASCAM day...

I've seen the demand (and therefore price) of these drop considerably in my area as well... a number of them sold for below $400 this year. I think they have reached the point now where you will inevitably start running into problems with aging caps, various components drifting out of spec...

    Fostex 4030/4035 sync question

Yep, up until about a year ago I had two Fostex R8s synced up using the Fostex 4030 and two made up accessory cables.

When will this Portastudio bubble burst?

Well there is a pretty big cassette resurgence happening in the indie music scene across most of the western world over the last couple of years so that's definitely playing a big part.

My "new" Tascam 388! Best outboard gear??

I second (or third or fourth...) the DBX 163x, great for dirty guitars or bass. I use it sometimes for kicks as well :laughings: I also have two of the DBX 163 which are even older and actually much prefer them for drums, they have a real nice character to them and just fatten the crap out of...

    Tascam Model 3 dimensions?

Just a quick question, anyone out there with a Model 3 can do a quick measure up and let me know approximate depth/width/height? Checking user manual doesn't seem to state it anywhere.

Neil Young and Bob Dylan recording to tape

I don't know, a brand spanking new 14.5" reel of SM900 is $821 here in AUS which works out to be about $574USD and the AUS dollar is a lot weaker now than it has been the last few years.... I imagine that ATR tape would be even more expensive. Apparently D'Angelo went through about 200 reels of...

Need info on the Tascam 48 ob!

A good price for that one is probably half of that, but of course with these things it's really about how desperate the buyer is to buy and the seller is to sell that determines the price. Regarding Fostex vs Tascam, yes there are probably a few more spare parts lying around for the Tascam 8...

Need info on the Tascam 48 ob!

If you're talking about the one sitting in the swop shop in Carlton, that's a pretty steep asking price for a deck that you can't properly test until you get the rubbers fixed. Their prices are usually on the high side and it's justified by their 3 day 'no questions asked' warranty but like I...

    TASCAM Wallpaper

I have the Ibanez UE400 which has a compressor, distortion, phaser and chorus. I understood that these were like the old school equivalent of a guitar multi-fx pedal and I initially bought it and racked it above my bass amp using it for compression and chorus effect on my bass (The Cure anyone?)...

Packing 101 (read this if you want your recorder / mixer to arrive in one piece)

It sounds like your seller just didn't have a clue what risks were involved with shipping. I too was a little surprised that the couriers refused to pack the MSR16 in a double box especially given that they would pack it themselves and could mark the item as very fragile. When it arrived...

Packing 101 (read this if you want your recorder / mixer to arrive in one piece)

It's usually a case where sellers only quote actual shipping costs on top of the final sale price so they aren't getting any money for the extra effort they have to put in packing such a heavy and fragile item. Obviously then they will spend as little time and money (and thought) into packing...

Tascam msr and Mackie Lm 3204

Mackie LM3204 looks like a line mixer and it also looks like a re-badged Samson mixer... So you would need external preamps to plug your mics into. Looks like it only sums to 4 outputs so you would need to re-patch after recording 4 tracks and you can only record 4 tracks at once (unless it has...

Tascam MSR16 calibrated for SM900/499 tape

I don't understand you here. Doesn't DBX rely on the recording being as transparent as possible? Input signal ---> DBX NR Encoder ---> Tape then on playback Tape ---> DBX NR Decoder ---> Output signal So if there is distortion added when recording/monitoring from tape, that distortion will...
