How do I make a cassette shorter?

Actually there is a mini 'cassette revival' happening in the last year or two in the independent and small-label music scene. Not quite as big as the growth in vinyl over the last couple of years but like I said, quite popular among the smaller 'hip' music scene that isn't quite big enough for...

interested in buying a teac, but how would I integrate it with my needs?

I don't think multichannel digital interfaces are 'very expensive'. 16 input Tascam interfaces can be had for $300-$400. If you have a 16 track tape machine you are probably paying $100+ for each tape so the interface is relatively cheap. for your last point 'hithere'... it's not necessarily...

Mixing & Mastering a 100% analog session to vinyl

The fact that pretty much all of the most influential and highly regarded bands of the past decade (Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Deerhunter, Ryan Adams and many others) all record to analog and most of there albums have been 100% analog (NO computers or digital...

    1.0 vs. 1.5 mil

Very interesting thread. I have been using and thinking about Quantegy 457 for years and the advantages/disadvantages of the 1-mil thickness. How about something like the 'Double-Play' BASF DP26 tape which has a thickness of 0.75mm? Does the thickness mean that this tape is not suitable for...

Viable tape to digital sync options?

Don't mean to hijack this thread - I was meaning to post a new thread with a very similar question, plus this might be useful to the OP... I just got a second Fostex R8 so I can sync them together however I don't know exactly what I need to do this. Do I need both a Fostex 4030 and a Fostex...

Earn $100 by testing your reel to reel tape recorder for me :)

So you are saying that the digital device is ruining the quality? :D I guess -4dB is still to 'close' to 0 for the digital recorder... This is why I think analog is so much better. Could you still send or post some graphs for me to see? I'm interested how it performed.

Earn $100 by testing your reel to reel tape recorder for me :)

Analog Recorder - Tascam 32 at 15ips using Quantegy 456 tape. Recorder was calibrated to 456 tape (different batch) approx. 3 years ago. Digital Interface - Roland VS-1680. Recorded at 24bit/48kHz (maximum). Exact same cables were used for all tests. http://www.filedropper.com/tascam32test...

Earn $100 by testing your reel to reel tape recorder for me :)

I can do it... if all you want is to record the WAV file to tape then record it back through an AD interface onto the computer? Obviously I would need to record the WAV file just bypassing the tape going directly to the AD interface to compare the interface to the actually tape recorder? I got...

Does analog move more air. . . ?

If you 'feel' more and the music hits you harder when listening to a track... that is PURELY the low-end frequencies. Boost up between 50-100Hz by 12dB on your CD player, now you will feel the music from the CD more! Sure it will sound like sh!t but you did say you weren't comparing the sound...

Old guy needs direction. . .

Yep correct, I meant just the DP-24 But really they are all just 1's and 0's :D

Old guy needs direction. . .

Or how about 16 tracks? A Roland VS-1680 is going dirt cheap these days, similar sort of thing to the HD-24 and DP-24 just a bit older. You could get one with an external CD Recorder for probably less that $300. I have one and use it occasionally over my tape machines because it is so easy to...

High noise in audio sent OUT from Allen & Heath to laptop mic port

Also, try to unplug the laptops AC Power (run on battery) and see if the noise is still there. Whenever I plugged anything into the line in on my laptop, I would get this sort of interference noise and then it would disappear when I unplugged the laptop power.

    Solved Tape Cleaning Care Australia

Never used those ones on my cassette machines. I just use the same 'wand style' ones that I use on my reel to reel machines.

    Solved Tape Cleaning Care Australia

they sell isopropyl (99%) alcohol at Dick Smith. Easy to find. Any rubber reconditioner/cleaner will be fine for the pinch roller and you don't really need a demagnetizer you really have a problem with the machine, if you do, any demagnetizers will be fine for cassette, there are plenty on eBay...

    Tascam 32 repro output issue

Thanks for that SteveM. Do you remember if your meters were still showing signal when in repro? Just seems like any connection issues with the output rca adapters shouldn't stop the meters from working.

    Tascam 32 repro output issue

It came back on today and was working fine. I'm no expert but could the relay really be intermittent like that? I'd definitely still want to do what Ethan was saying in his thread because it sounds exactly like the symptoms on my machine.

    Tascam 32 repro output issue

Hi guys, my 32 has had an issue with the left channel output in repro (also the left meter does not move), in sync everything works fine. The issue has been intermittent over the past few months but would not work at all today during a recording session. Ethan had a similar problem with his 32...
