    1/4" Jack VS XLR

In that case you are all set to use condenser mics plugged into the XLR jacks. Enjoy.

    1/4" Jack VS XLR

The 1/4" inputs are designed for line level sources, not microphones. Switch to XLR and the signal will improve significantly. As for condenser mics, first verify that the mixer has phantom power. I did a quick Google and looked at the specs and phantom power is not mentioned at all. :(

How do 7" reels fit in that thing? It looks like some kind of spindle comes up through the middle.

    Sweet Ebay deal in Cleveland

Being a King, I have no need for a Prince. I wonder if he ever used a Crown tape machine. ;)

    Sweet Ebay deal in Cleveland

I agree with staying away, but, the Series 70 got a lot of artists started on their careers. I can remember when Prince was doing demo work in a studio that had a Model 10 mixer and a Series 70 8 track that resulted in his Warner Brothers contract. Of course, the gear he worked on is probably...

What is the model number on the Nesco unit that you used? I have some tapes that I need to "cook".

    Sansui WS-X1 manual

Check your PM's. I have the manual on a hard drive that died a couple of weeks ago. :( The computer that the drive is in is out being "repaired" at the moment. I should have it back in a couple of days. I am not optomistic, but there is a posssibility that I may be able to recover the...

Oh YEAH, baby...treasure for the ecclectically-minded!

An old customer/friend of mine uses one of those all the time for writing music. This guy plays in a local club every Sunday evening and has another gig or two during the week. He wants to be a rock star when he grows up. Here's a video I shot of him a couple of years ago.

Wierd Noises in Many songs I listen to

The squeaky kick pedal on this one drove me crazy back when it came out. Very few people noticed it until I would point it out. It's in there, but not too prominent in the Youtube video track. video

    What's Your Setup?

I do mostly location recording. This is me in front of my "portable" rig in 1976. I upped the ante to an 8 track later that year and in 1977 went to work for a pro audio company and sold all my gear. I am just getting back into it now. Currently my location rig consists of: 2 x Presonus...

    Anyone knows SANSUI MX-12?

Speaking of Sansui, I have a friend who owns one of these: It's a 6 track cassette recorder with a built in mix down cassette deck. He uses it all the time, even though he is 94 years old. He still writes music and uses it to do demos.

    Recording Using a computer

They dropped it to $40, even more worth it. Great stuff (even though I paid $60).

Question on the DIY tape echo

I used to do this with my first reel to reel, a VERY old Ampex consumer model. Plug the guitar into the mic input on one channel. Feed the line out from that channel back to the line in on the same channel (or the other channel) and you have tape echo. The number of repeats is determined by...

    Check Out Her Mama....

This was recorded live on the outside deck at Archie's Seabreeze in Ft. Pierce, Fl. directly across the street from the Atlantic ocean (a bit breezy, hence the name). I used a total of 10 inputs. In listening I now realize that the left overhead is a bit overpowering on crashes, so no need to...

Getting rid of hissing from mixer???????

Sounds like a gain stage setting problem. With a normal input coming into the channel, bring the "Gain" control up until the "Peak" light flashes. Once it starts flashing bring the "Gain" down just enough to eliminate the flashing. This sets the input stage. Once that is set bring the...

    Wal-Mart at Midnight - Greg_L original crap

Great stuff... I almost spit my drink on my computer screen. It does fail the political correct test though. ;)
