Hey Scriaben....I really liked the piece. In fact, right after I streamed it, I downloaded it. I've written a few midi things which are orchestral in feel, and now I'm more inclined to put mine up to see what people think. Good job, I'm looking forward to hearing more of your work.
Why don't you use both Sonar and Acid Pro? They both do what they're supposed to do quite well. If Acid is easier for you to make loops with, then do it and import into Sonar. Get a good audio editor(maybe Sound Forge), and off you go. Right now, I think you can get Acid Pro 4.0 from Guitar...
Just partition the bigger, faster drive. Make a 10 gig space for OS and apps, then you have the other partion for audio. And yes, have a regular backup plan, since then you would be on one drive.
Jagular...sorry to hear you're having so much trouble. I had to replace a file when I ran 98SE, and I did a search on the web to find it. Downloaded it, and used system file checker to replace it. It sounds as if you're having a hell of a time even booting into Windows.
If you can get into safe...
Looks like 10,000 rpm drives will be available in serial ATA. Here's a link to a Western Digital drive:

Some folks are not convinced with serial-ATA yet. It's in the early stages. Just thought you might want to check it out. Could be a way to get the...
Hey sae... I just saw this thread. I was over at the Mackie website, and there are some guys doing some serious complaining about one side of their mains distorting and cutting out on the 1604VLZs. It seems to be happening after six months or so. They think it's a problem Mackie is aware of, and...
I agree with Doug Q as far as keeping finished files separate from your project files. The OS and Audio Software only really needs about 10 GB space, and that's leaves breathing room. So you could easily partition a 40 GB drive, and have another larger, say, 80 GB drive to keep audio data on...
Thanks guys for all the replies...My Mackie 1402 has a setting that gives you the option of Mic/ +4dB. Now I know that the output of a mic level is less than a line level, and I mostly use synths and sound modules. The Mackie goes into a Delta 1010. I have read the manuals for both, but there...
Thanks James.......Yeah, I don't have Gramdma's old Grannyphone lying around anywhere, and even if I did, I probably would have to rub a couple of pieces of coal together to get it to start spinning the platter. So thanks for the reply. I'll make sure I use the +4 dB settings on both mixer and...
If I am setting up my mixer to pass inputs through to my soundcard, should I set the mixer and my soundcard to +4 dB, or to -10 dB? Both have a setting for each. What is the advantage of a specific setting? Am I right in thinking that at -10 dB, I won't have to have as hot a signal to begin...
I agree with the Gidge...if you're not comfortable building your monster by yourself, then get a local shop to put it together for you. That way, you can select exactly what hard/software goes into your beast. Then, if you have questions or problems down the line, you'll have a local source that...
Cool...it did seem like you tried everything. This is what we have to do ...not be afraid to get inside the computer and f*ck with everything. It's the only way we are all going to get better at solving problems and troubleshooting. I try not to comment too much here, as I have much to learn. I...
Hey guys...sorry if I missed something, but on the M-Audio website they tell you to do the "read me" thing, to avoid unecessary hassles when installing their drivers. I had a Delta 66 running on 98se, and now a Delta 1010 on XP. When you download their drivers, you double-click on the file, and...
Thanks, DeadPoet.......Yes, the second HD is on a different controller. I just have a good bit of audio apps, and I don't really want to crowd the OS partition after installing all the programs. I've got 1 GB RAM too, so the swapfile won't be an issue. Also, I'll be using external 7200rpm...
Hey all...I'm setting up my DAW, and have the first drive partitioned as (C): OS-XP Pro, at 10 GB. The other partition on the same drive is (D): 30 GB. Now, I have some other drives that I will/can use for audio data/samples/backups. Since I haven't set it up this way before, my question: For...
Hey Pisces.....Try downloading the demo from the propellerheads site. I think it only "works" for 20 minutes at a time until you get the registered version. It is like having some drum machines, synths, and a sequencer, plus fx, all rolled into one piece of software. From my experience with the...
