So, I've have my SP-5B's for a few weeks now, and I gotta say I'm LOVING them! Keep in mind that this is my first pair of monitors though, so I don't have experience comparing them to anything besides what I've listened to at some stores. They're small speakers but they pack quite a punch in...
Steve, you have a couple of options if you want to "go digital" with your recording. It'd be helpful for people here if you give them an idea about how much money you're planning on spending, because there's a HUGE range of things one could go into here.
One option is to get a standalone...
I second that! I'm just listening through crappy computer speakers right now, but I'm actually having LOTS of difficulty understanding the vocals. I can only pick out a few words here and there. You gotta do something about that. Otherwise, awesome tune!
Yeah, I don't think MF offers the v67 anymore :(
Why do you have to shop at MF though? I know you said you "have an account," but that just means you've ordered from them before, right? It's easy to order elsewhere even if you don't officially "have an account." www.8thstreet.com has the...
Morindae, nowhereradio seems to be back up again. I just listened to the MR-8 "angry bee distortion" track. Damn that sounds awful to my ears! Hence the saying, "to each his own."
what about getting a pair of KRK active monitors, like the V8's? They're definitely light-years ahead of the TR-5's or PM-1's and would run you about $1200, leaving almost half of your budget free to get some pre's or whatever.
Also, I'm a little confused about what you said regarding...
ohhhhhhhhh, is THAT how it works?? I always assumed that a power supply putting out more amperage could be damaging to the unit, that's why I was worried mine didn't match the specs of the factory one. Is the voltage the more critical factor for the internal transformer? Sorry, I don't...
have you tried varying the placement of the mic itself? All mics are different, but often there's a "sweet spot." You shouldn't necessarily need to use any acoustical treatments in order to get pretty good sounding vocals...maybe the mic you're using isn't good for getting the sound you're after.
okay, so apparently Johnson used the most idiotic labeling system on that rear switch. I just found something on the J-Station page about how lots of people have had this problem, and usually it's because the switch is in the wrong position due to the rediculously poorly-chosen labeling scheme...
I just checked my renegade wall-wart...actually it's one of those in-line ones, which I like better than the wart...and it's a 9V 2.1A unit. It's always pretty warm when plugged in, and the J-Station definitely gets warm after only a few minutes of use. Everything seems to be okay using this...
Virus, if you're going to be recording drums as you said, it'll probably be a little more difficult to do if you only have the ability to record two tracks at once, as is the case with the VF80. The way around this is to add a mixer, so that you can record drums using more than just 2 mics, and...
There are a few Jasmine's, Takamine's equivalent of Epiphone in a sense, on musiciansfriend. There's a cutaway for $129 and a dreadnought solid-top for $99 (a steal)!

J-Station MIDI troubles :(
I just got my M-Audio UNO 1x1, but I can't seem to get it to work with my J-Station!
Hey Strings, how do you have the Uno set up with your J-Station? Or anyone else?
I swear I've hooked it up every way possible, but every time J-Edit just tells me it can't find...
What kind of stuff will you be recording? Vocals, acoustic guitar, micing amps, etc.?
I'm pretty sure the VF80 has phantom power capability built-in, so you don't necessarily need to buy an outboard pre-amp, although it's highly recommended eventually, to get a better sounding recording...
I broke down and picked up a pair of SP-5B's for $199 on web special at musiciansfriend. I came soooooo close to getting an open box pair for only $159.99, but someone beat me to it, while I was putting in my billing info :( :( :( But I'm really REALLY glad I didn't wait around for another...
No no no, the FMR compresser isn't $400, and it's not one channel! It's the PRE-AMP (the RNP) that sells for over $400. The RNC, on the other hand, is a stereo compressor that sells brand new for about $170-$175, shipped and everything! But if you might have use for a gate/expander, or any...
