Some feedback on my 1st time recording.

Robus - It's s vocal cover. I believe he's added the vocals to the instrumental. Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater Soundtrack: Snake Eater - YouTube

Some feedback on my 1st time recording.

It really does sound like there's a blanket over the microphone when you recorded this. You should just be able to get a clear vocal recording with the cheapest of gear. How are you recording this? What interface are you using? A new recording will probably be needed as I don't think that is...

That's some good information, thanks! I've not got into using side chains as yet. Something new to mess around with!

    Fables - Rock/Alternative

I'm not using masses of compression to be honest. I try and level the vocals with automatation so that I don't have to compress that much. I'll keep it in mind. Thanks!

    Fables - Rock/Alternative

Thanks. :) It means a lot. I know what you mean, but I post this here for advice, and while I am generally happy with it as it was, I know that there are people who can help me tweak it. So if someone gives me advice I'll always try it, if I really don't like it I won't keep it, but I'll always...

    Fables - Rock/Alternative

Okay I've shorted it. The song ultimately is for me and my friend alone, so it's okay if it's over indulgent. But for the sake of a better song, I thought that I'd give it a go. Perhaps the intro does take away from the song. https://soundcloud.com/demosandideas/fables-v3

    Fables - Rock/Alternative

Okay. I've made a new version with less washy cymbals. I always get drawn to the washy cymbals but I guess that I am eventually convinced out of it. I think that now I'll leave them in the past. :D I'm not sure about whether the loud bit at the end into the breakdown works in terms of levels...

    Fables - Rock/Alternative

Okay that does make some sense, Robus. Although the two guitars are separated equally off centre by the same amount. How would you pan them? And mjb - I think I'm thinking about the track as a constant, and not thinking enough about the dynamic of the actual part that is being played. That's a...

    Fables - Rock/Alternative

Do you mean it's harsh because it's a bit loud and overwhelming, and doesn't let the lead part come through? Aside from the levels I don't hear a conflict between the two guitars, it's meant to be an interplay between the two. One is all lead and the second is a more rhythm/lead combination. Do...

    Fables - Rock/Alternative

I dunno, it feels right to me as I've always had the song written that way, from the intro into the big part into the verse. And then it comes full circle back into the big part. It was written that way, composition wise it won't change. The chorus is difficult, he likes it, I wanted to figure...

    To You I'll Turn

I like it. Nice chilled vibe. Not much I can say about the mix, it's pretty great. What I have noticed is sometimes the snare seems to lose their impact when the vocals are present. Really cool song. The harmonies are great.

    Thank You Jeus revisited

Mix is really good. Guitar tone is perfect for the song. I think the vocals are a tad high. Maybe 0.4db, not a lot. It's much better in the second verse for some reason.

    Fables - Rock/Alternative

Posted a non vocal version a while ago and finally got my friend to come round and lay the vocals down. I know some don't like the washing of cymbals, but I think it suits this intro in this song so that's staying, anything else is fair game. :) Any thoughts? Latest version...

A question for the pros - Getting into sound engineering.

This isn't true. I've gone from considering a 3 year course to a 3 week one. I'd say I've listened to the advice given to me. If you've read the thread this should be fairly evident imo. This is exactly what the course allows. Plus I get a weeks unlimited time to spend in the studio, with the...

A question for the pros - Getting into sound engineering.

I think that people are missing the point that I woildnt give up my career unless a solid opportunity to do so presented itself. Taking a sidestep for a couple of years was the intention. I would look for work in its many forms, but it would have to be an extraordinary offer to get me to...

Guitar mainly, a bit of bass and drums. Why's that?

A question for the pros - Getting into sound engineering.

I've just kind of fallen through life to be honest. I've just worked hard at whatever opportunities fell into my lap. A careers advisor in my early 20's suggested a degree in Nursing because I expressed an interest in community based work, and a desire to give to society rather than take, and I...
