    Rode Broadcaster or Ev RE20?

Sennheiser MD 441 Sinxce you seem to live in Europe, it would make sense to get a Sennheiser MD441 instead of the RE20. Its a notch better than the RE20 IMHO and you can find them rather cheap on European Ebay sites.

    mobile demo recording

I agree -- you need a notebook/powerbook plus external UBS/FireWire hard drive (so you you run the software off your powerbook HD, but record the audio on a separate drive ... makes your HD performance better).

Anyone interested in hearing a clip of an re20 vs sm7 with just spoken vox?

I'd be very interested to hear these mics on a sax since I consider buying the RE20 to record my tenor sax. Can you tell me about your experience? Cheers!

    The $5,000 vs $500 Debate

Ahh, good point and thanks for asking: I didn't even want to go so far, but the recording with my rather inexpensive setup sounds actually better since I can now use the mic in Figure 8 pattern (the Rode NT2A allows this, the Gefell and Neumann mics which I had didn't), which opened up the sound...

    The $5,000 vs $500 Debate

Hi there -- over the past few years I had a recording setup that I considered rather high end -- for the sole purpose to record me playing tenor saxophone over tracks other guys provide. I guess I am like everyone else on this board: the best is just good enough. ;) The signal chain alone was...

    Best RODE for vocals

I have an NT2-A which I like a lot. Way better than the AT4047 I used before, and the sonic differences to a Gefell M930 I had a while back are tiny -- and it has different patterns and a pad (-5dB and -10dB). The -5dB is the one I use a LOT. Why can't other mics have a -5dB pad? Its very...

    Mic Suggestions for Tenor Saxophone

I Bought a Rode NT2-A Thank you all for your helpful suggestions! I just got back from the music store and had a recording session at home with my new mic, a Rode NT2-A. I am very suprised how well that mic works on a tenor sax -- better actually than Neumann and Gefell mics I used before...

AT-4050, ADK Hamburg, or MXL v67?

If you want a smooth and non-airy sound, check out the AT4047.

    Mobile Laptop Setup

I have the January 2006 issue of the Remix mag in front of me with a one-page ad for the Fat Track Pro and it says in a box "Compatible with Pro Tools M-Powered 7".

    Mic Suggestions for Tenor Saxophone

Hi Kenny -- I don't have a high-quality pre which I think excludes dynamic and ribbon mics, unless you think the pres on the M-Audio FastTrack Pro interface will do the job. The SM7 is beyond my budget anyway.

    Mic Suggestions for Tenor Saxophone

Hi! I need to buy one mic for the sole purpose to record saxophone (=me) in my project studio. Unfortunately money is tight (<$250.-). Given the large number of budget mics on the market, I cannot decide. Maybe you can chime in and give me your opinion? These are the mics which I...

    Mobile Laptop Setup

OK, all these discussion about FireWire/USB/buspower aside -- do you guys have any recommendations? I would like to know which units have the best sound quality. I like the M-Audio Fast Track Pro, but the Focusrite Saffire seems to have higher quality pres and converters. The Fast Track Pro is...

    Mobile Laptop Setup

I think my search is over: Guitar Center has the M-Audio Mobilepre USB plus M-Audio Aries cendensor mic on sale for $149.-. Sounds like a good deal :D

    Mobile Laptop Setup

Yes, this one looks great! I also like the M-Audio FastTrack Pro. I wonder if they sound similar, or whether the "Pro" model has better pres/converters. But either one I guess would be fine for my purpose.

    Mobile Laptop Setup

Hmm, that might work. However, I don't want a setup with adapters and external power supplies. Defies the purpose of a simple and mobile recording setup.

    Mobile Laptop Setup

Hi -- my notebook has a 4-pin FireWire port which is unpowered. An adapter wouldn't help. Most FireWire interfaces are bus-powered.

    Mobile Laptop Setup

Hi guys & girls -- I want to switch from desktop to a mobile laptop recording setup. I will only record one thing: me on my tenor saxophone. I already have a fast notebook (Alienware Sentia notebook, 2.4 MHz mobile Pentium processor 2GB Ram, external 400 GB firewire/USB drive). No need for a...
