    How to Make a song?

I usually stick with a chord progression and just start singing random stuff over it. As I build in the rest of the parts of the song I might sing a random line that I actually like, and a lot of times I end up building the song around that. I know what you mean though.. I used to record a lot...

    With Love

This sounds like background music I would hear on a space documentary released on laserdisc. You've got some really cool sounds, and nice transitions into the different sections. Now it just needs a quantum physicist explaining how black holes work. Listened to the whole thing, cool track!

Can I have some Pointers on this Mix?

Haha nah, just being a smartass. The mix sounds good to me, until about halfway in where it sounds like he starts getting much further away from the mic? The vocal completely changes. It doesn't sound like there's a lot to mix, but what's there was done well. The bass is right in the middle...

Can I have some Pointers on this Mix?

I was going to comment, but it sounds like this guy does this every day and doesn't give a **** what I gotta say.

    Help choosing a Microphone

I've had the AT2020, and I use the NT2-A. Never tried the 1a... I record through a presonus firepod, so I am not at any pro level... The AT2020 was noticeably harsher. After I got the NT2-A I saw no use for it and sold it. I think I spent $330 on ebay for the NT2-A, brand new years ago. I...

    Phasey Sibilant Vocals

What does the dry track sound like? What kind of effects & plugins do you have on the vocal? When I've run into stuff like that I've found I've had the track on some weird send or some close delay that causes the issues. Are you using more than one mic on the vocals?

The Temptation of Adam - Another Greg hatchet job

Haha this is great! I just listened to the original, and I do like yours better. I think that the higher bass notes jumped a bit too far out in front. Not sure how I'd address it other than automation. Sweet tone though, if maybe a little bright to me (on the bass). What did you use to...

    Finding Our Way

Cool song! Definitely great tone to your voice, very fitting for the genre. This mix is definitely better than the last one.

    "Heart Of Fire"--Feedback, please please?

I really like this! I agree that maybe the instruments could come up a bit, but not too much. Total driving song you've got here. Your voice sounds great, accessible but not generic.

    Blow-Up Doll - A Greg_L original stupid love song

Hot damn that thing is clean, even got the "vertical input" that I believe the corkies love as well. I have a JCM900 MKIII but would love to try out some of these other ones as well. Either way you get some sick sounds out of them!

    Blow-Up Doll - A Greg_L original stupid love song

This is good stuff, love the production. I also like how the waveform looks like a big shlong. Motifs everywhere.

Which mix sound better? A vs. B.

The guitars sound great on A, but I don't like that vocal at all. Overcompressed, distorted and sounds small, like it's being put through some sort of radio filter. B is way better IMO, a lot more natural. Trying to decide if the vocal needs to be pulled down just a little bit. Whole mix...

Final EP track.. If you listen to this I'll buy you a strawberry daiquiri.

Nevermind, I guess it was the like jingly bell sound.. but on second listen it doesn't bother me, but the clap still does. I like your singing better than the Radiohead guy. Not sure why i thought the drums were fake at first!

Final EP track.. If you listen to this I'll buy you a strawberry daiquiri.

Man, beautiful track. I don't listen to this type of music really, but this is very cool. That splash & clap during the chorus sound way too hokey for this song. I also think it's deserving of a real drummer. Excellent vocals and love when the song picks up. Overall very good. Now where's...

"If It Goes" Country tune! One mic and Garageband....

The bass is a bit boomy IMO, but overall it sounds great. I do think it would be better if you could increase the volume, but I have knobs on my interface that does that too. I liked all of it! It sounds like you guys are all playing together. I like the sound of this type of country...

If I Had a Pair of You - JJ

I think the production is well done. I wish that it picked up with some bass and drums though. Your singing to me sounds a bit robotic? I'm not sure how to explain it. As far as content, I first thought that this was about sleeping with twins. But I think it's about weed? Either way, I...

The Creature From The Haunted Lake

Really like this! Very cool beat. Love the totally old school sound. This would be perfect for a movie intro

Do you think there is more for you to learn about songwriting ?

Yes! I agree. The artist will determine if it's good or bad, and the other people will determine whether or not they like it. I imagine it must feel great though, when someone can really put themselves into a song and have it affect other people as well.

Grammy without a major label. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Anybody know how?

I'm 26, and I hate rap. But I really like Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. IMO this is how they became successful. They found a way to make people who don't even like rap enjoy it. I'm not sure where they hit the magic... My favorite things about it are that many of the songs are very anti-consumer...

Whitesnake Cover- Give me all your love tonight!!!!!

The vocal performance is great! That being said the mix needs a lot of work. I felt like I was inside of the bass guitar as it was being played. In a visual demonstration, your mix sounds like this: BASSmixBASS It pretty much engulfs all of the other aspects. With the right mix I think...
