Cool man, I really like your mixes as well. I think getting some additional mics in my arsenal will make me a bit happier. After checking out youtube videos of the SM7b vs the SM57 on a guitar cab, I really like the sound of the SM7b, so I'm going to buy that one. I'm thinking the next step...
Thanks guys, that makes me glad to hear. The firepod has been super reliable for me so I have no good reason to get rid of it if sound quality is not wildly different than the new stuff. I should post some mixes up, if I ever finish one.. I will put that money towards some additional mics...
Hi everyone, I've had a Presonus Firepod for about 9 years and am thinking about upgrading if it is a cost-effective option. I've grown more sensitive to identifying nuances in recording, and it may be my crappy engineering skills, but I feel like a lot of my raw tracks are a bit thin / harsh...
I really like this a lot.. very well done all around. You even managed to make the plane sound effect fit without sounding cheesy. I do think the ride cymbal overtakes a little bit in some parts, and the really high notes sound like you might be straining a bit. This would fit right in with...
I like this quite a bit. I like the retro sound of the mix and it sounded well balanced. Nothing stood out to me, especially with the idea in mind that you're trying to emulate mixes that weren't perfect. I hated the part of the video when it was matched to the drums.. it was switching way...
The beat actually sounds way better with the gun sound effects in it I think. I say keep going with it, so we can have a more complete product to judge on.
I totally love this, you have a great voice. Sounds like you need just a little bit more control of it compared to the pros, but honestly if this was anywhere but a home recording forum I would have thought this was an original version from the 50s or something. Sinatra is big on my playlist...
Cool song, I think the snare gets lost very easily. The kick and the bass move it all along great though. I think the vocal could be a little louder as well... maybe some parallel compression to fatten it up? I dig it.
I think you did a great job on it. There's a certain carelessness and grittiness that this song has, and you captured it really well. I think the vocals are fine where they are, as you said they are pretty buried in the original as well. Not much else to say as you pretty much stuck right to...
I agree with the drums too loud / too bright, they are overtaking the vocal tracks. That palm muted guitar is also making the mix seem heavy on the left. I'm pretty sure it's got some bass / mud that is pulling the mix that way. But it also might just be a little too loud. Last thing, you've...
For a video called "Ride or Die" they certainly did a lot of standing around. The video quality of your camera is nice, but I thought the video was boring. To me a video should be engaging, and make you want to keep watching even if you're not focusing on the song itself.
I actually think this would work great as intro music for a youtube channel / product ad. Not sure what for, but definitely something. I like the groove a lot. Too long? Sure, as it doesn't move in parts like a traditional song, but it's still cool.
Sick guitar, I was thinking that it was some sort of p90. I think the p90 may be the answer to all my problems. Don't get me wrong, I love my strat, but I think the P is going to be THE pickup for me.
Gonna be honest, I didn't even know the original. But this was awesome. And I liked it better than the original after listening. What guitars did you use for this one?
I think it sounds excellent. Song itself may be a little slow, but I enjoyed sticking around for it. My first reaction is that the snare takes up maybe a little too much space, but I do still like it where it is. Not a huge fan of the guitar repeated guitar lick from 3:40 to 3:48, but that's...
Lmfao, this song is sick. And hilarious. The new version is way better for sure. Not many songs make me actually laugh out loud, but this one definitely does.
Cool song, but I'm also not a huge fan of the vocal reverb. IMO reverb should be used to make it sound like the whole band is in the same space even when it's all recorded separately. The progression and melody reminds me a lot of Aerosmith's "Cryin"
Loved it! I agree that it sounds very pro. Would like to hear more about what you used to record. Did you do it all yourself or do you have a band? Was this done in a home studio?
