software comp and eq for mixing ITB..

I'm a huge Waves fan... but If I could do it again I may not have bought the Diamond bundle... look very hard at the UAD-1. Huge amount of power and great sounds that run independantly of your CPU! :D  Do a quick search for UAD and see how highly the others consider them! ;)

    Well-Mixed Mainstream Albums

I agree with the pumpkin thing. Sounds awesome in my studio, sounds a bit muddy everywhere else I've heard it though IMO.

Vocal textures with EQ and plugins?

Good call! I forgot about that beauty!!! Presets are pretty darn good and you can mangle and shape as much as you like. A bit CPU heavy, if I remember rightly?

    Anyone High passing their bass

Yeah I like a kinda retro (ish) sound. I take off the bottom 60 - 80 on the bass guitar to make space for the kick and take it down a tad at around 500 too keep the muddiness down. Then I roll off everything at about 1000. I still get the definition and attack but it doesn't interfere higher up...

    programming drums PLEASE HELP!!!!

Keyfax do cheap CD's that contain a variety of royalty free midi files that you can import and arrange to you hearts content... you can also get down and dirty within the files and edit so that it's just as you need. Not only drums BTW. ;)

Vocal textures with EQ and plugins?

Diggin the retro! Take off the majority of the lower frequencies. Add a touch for presence. Then get it saturated. I use Antares Tube to drive the signal so that it distorts slightly. It's a great analoguey sound much like White strips (except they used a nearly all analogue studio with real...

    Question Regarding Reverb/Doubling/Delays

I use cubase but I assume the process to be the same... These sort of effects need to be applied via SENDS as apposed to INSERTS. That way you maintain the original source sound and add the effect to it instead of applying the effect directly to source. I'm sure someone can go through the ins...

    Headphone monitors recomendations

Thanks for the article. I understand that headphones aren't the right tool for mixing. What I want to do is to 'check' mixes through them... in much the same way as you would burn a cd and run it into another room/car/etc. It just isn't practical (time, cost and energy) to continually burn and...

    Headphone monitors recomendations

To add to this: I already have DT100's (for tracking) but they tend to reduce the highs and lows like a frown pattern. And some bog standard Sennheiser hifi headphones that boost the highs and lows!

    Headphone monitors recomendations

I know that I'm gonna get spanked royally about this but here goes... My control room acoustics suck... tiny room, not enough absorbtion... not enough room to put much more in! :( It's pretty great at judging the highs but the lower mids and bass levels are all over the place. For this...

    Recording On A Budget/compressor?

What instruments are you recording? I find that I prefer to run things in without compression... unless it's a percussion instrument. If you run at 24bit then the noise floor is low enough that you don't need to run the inputs too near 0db anyway.

    Best Waves Plugins

Doh! I forgot about Linear MB. Awsome plugin!!!

will these cheap foam "bass absorbers" work?

I would be very sceptical of trusting a company who don't know what they're selling!!!!!! They are described as 'sound proofing' foam... they should be described (if they work) as sound absorbing!! VERY different method!!!!!!! My 2c... Avoid like the plague!

    Best Waves Plugins

I'm digging my new Q-clone eq... although a bit of tweaking inside would be better. Otherwise Ren eq, or Waves 10 band eq for clinical stuff. The L3 maximiser (not multimaximiser) for best Limiter. It just does it's job... simple as. Ren Compressor is fantastic although Renvox is perfect on...

Need advice on losing the brittle and finding the warm

I just needed to say"AY'MEN" to the Jack Johnson thing. A wonderful artist that is only now getting the long deserved attention and radio play here in the uk. Try a nylon string guitar if your thinking mellow finger picking. I know Jack uses some nice valve mics in his set-up. I agree...
