    Har-bal before or after compression??

THE MIX IS GOOD. It has very little compression on most of the parts. They each have their own space, they each compliment each other, a slight (and it is slight)compression helps homogonise the sound. Don't you EVER use compression during mastering? From the amount of information and advice...

    Har-bal before or after compression??

Blue bear. If you read my first post I said that my mix was pretty close (nigh on perfect to their chart actually) I just needed to check it and this tool works wonders at that.

    Har-bal before or after compression??

Hi Massive I respect your opinion as high as anyone on this forum. You know what you're doing and can hear what needs to be done. I (still) have a cr@p sounding room and need a real reference for my mixes. I've tried listening to CD's but I upgraded my monitors and need to get a mix out...

    a piano in the mix

What mics, pre's and placement are you using to capture the sound? Also is it upright or grand? Some great reading on this subject - http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may99/articles/recpiano.htm http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/1994_articles/oct94/pianomiking.html

    Cubase - Protools

You could solo each instrument and "mixdown". That would give you continuous tracks. ***There is a patch out there (that I haven't used) which does this for each track automatically. This saves you having to sit there and export them all individually. I think I saw it on this forum -...

    Cubase - Protools

    Har-bal before or after compression??

OK. Now I know that the subject of this program and it's merits (or lack of them) comes into question a lot... but... I recently upgraded my monitors and am learning how to mix on them. This package really made a nice difference to the sound of my latest mix (although I was pretty darn close...

32bit mixing... What happens when pushed???

What is the real benifit of using 96 over 48...? With this PC I just turned everything up to the max to test it with little thought as to what improved!

32bit mixing... What happens when pushed???

Like I said. This was from a very early session on a brand new beast of a pc. I never thought It'd struggle... and I kind of wanted to test it! It did ok. Not that I'll bother in the future! 24bit is FINE! ;)

Recording the vocals .... somewhere else

Do you not find it difficult to mix the vocal into a pre-mixed song? I would have thought that without eqing the other instruments to make 'a hole' the vocals would just sit on top.

    mixing a whammy pedal solo...

Sorry, only just found this post. I did a high screamy solo for my last tune and found that BBE Sonic Maximiser when the low/contour knob is turned up really sweetens up an otherwise harsh sounding lead. Slash used it to great effect on Sweet Child 'O Mine. I hope this helps :D

Not to sound condecending (if I could even spell it!) have you checked the midi cables are connected correctly and that it is configured as the chosen midi in?

    Archiving Your Work

I also have a partition on my programs harddrive that I back up to... Nothing like being paranoid! I also don't keep the DVD's in the same room. I have nightmares about burgerlars taking pc and discs (like they'd even know what was on them!). I had a HD die on me a while ago, never losing that...

    Archiving Your Work

Hi, I back up constantly on 2 DVDRW's. Once I'm done They both have everything needed to reopen the track including user presets, audio, midi and cubase files. ... I hate to lose work! ;)

Cd... This can be played through desk to singers headphones. Get the new tracks shoved on another CD... mix back into arrangement at home.

32bit mixing... What happens when pushed???

I built this PC 2 years ago and thought it was the daddy and instantly started working at 32/96. These projects, when mixing, tend to cause major CPU issues. My FX list doesn't help (waves platinum, IR-1...). I recently opened an old file at 16/44.1 and the fx could be piled on without an issue...

32bit mixing... What happens when pushed???

Thanks for the replies. None of the individual channels are clipping, the master fader isn't clipping. After a very long mix session trying to help the sound of the vocals it just sounded a bit squashed. Been working on it tonight and it's actually pretty cool as it is. I guess the 32bit...
