Need DI To Record My Bass W/ Active Pickups?

I'm pretty sure a DI is unecessary for active basses, if neither your active bass or mixer has a 3 band eq i couldnt see the sans amp doing much for you. If all you need is a straight up DI box I think there are probably better options though I am not familiar with them

Is this normal: Signal delay thru mixer?

i wouldnt rule out latency, usually i use sonar with a motu 24i, but i tried n-tracks on my other computer with a santa cruz card and it was like, hit the string, wait for it, wait for it, now.

Can you degrade your monitors by overloadin them with low freqs?

i know with the mackie hr824s there is some kind of limiting protecting the drivers from being ripped apart. I only got it loud enough once to hear it engage, not only was the music extremely loud but as you could imagine the limiter is not a very musical one, that sound like SHIT. I dont know...

    combining mixing and mastering

getting the mix to sound good clean makes sense, If im losing the drums with peak limiting, maybe I'm just using to much. I know not to peak limit my mixes before mastering, I was just talking about for demos where there will be no true mastering stage. Do you have a website for your...

    digital in/out

    digital in/out

I hear a lot of the lynx cards for digital in and out, is there something that seperates them as far as sound quality from other cards? Do their digital ins/outs sound better than other cards? The reason I ask is because if I want to upgrade to seperate a/d conversion Ill need a soundcard with...

    combining mixing and mastering

I'm on my third demo recording for friend's bands and my band is almost done with the album. If the album comes out good I'll have it professionally mastered. But as far as the demos go, when I try to mix and "master," some compression and peak limiting, seperately the relative levels of all the...

    Dual CPU Support

I've got the Dual 2400+ MP's too, SONAR 2.0 has multi-processor support. I know a guy at the local music store that told me about that multiple computer thing when we were talking about multi processor machines, but he said it was such a pain in the ass to get set up and working right and it...

    should i buy pro tools?

    * Pro Tools was used along with other products. mostly only hip-hop albums were done entirely on pro-tools and its a long list, but in the first 20, lose yourself is there probably 4 times, with almost all of the others repeated *edit* not that its an engineering masterpiece or anything...

    should i buy pro tools?

i think what you have to realize is that in a "pro" studio, protools is just another tool. Tom Lord-Alge mixed that cd, he does his mixes on a real mxing board with sony digital tape. I wouldnt be suprised if some special pt engineer sat in a room lining up snare drum hits before Lord-Alge...

    Wow - Earthworks Monitors

    Levels and settings for Tamborines

what i like to do for tamborines is pan the main track say 50% left, and then send it to an aux bus panned 50% right. On the aux bus i put pretty heavy reverb, with the wet dry mix at 100, in other words only reverb, no original signal. So you have the dry signal on one side and the wet on the...

    the band wants feedback!

i generally keep it dry, maybe a low cut for boomy feedback spots, but if I get that ill usually just do it over. Once in the beginning of a song i used three different feedback tracks all with a very spacious reverb. By manuvering the guitar you can make all kinds of sounds.

    Audio Density

your waveform is getting the right amount of volume, that is relatively uncompressed compared to pro stuff. One thing you should realize when you talk about density of audio is that low end takes many more decibels to produce the same audible level, if you put a low cut on there, or even just...

    snare drum reverb

Is it common to use a mono reverb on a snare drum, or is there a specific setting that might effect the width of a reverb? I reealize im working with relatively poor plugins compared to the outboard units they might have in big studios, but a problem i always have with snare drum reverb is that...
