Another word of advice-since you are mixing this down to 2 tracks, it may be a good idea to make the kick & snare a bit louder in the mix than you might think. We recorded drums to 2 tracks with a similar setup to what you have about a year ago. Drums sounded good on their own, but in the...
I would use the 57/58 inside the kick to get the beater sound & the mxl out in front of the kick to get the low end. I was not happy with the results I got the time I miced a kick with just a 57. We had to use a lot of eq & the end result didn't sound very good. The combo of the 57 & the...
Great song! I love the vocals (although some of them could come up in the mix). I don't know if its just my crappy speakers, but the kick drum is pretty loud in the mix. I'm curious to hear the original now-I love the Kinks, but don't know this one.
If you have the cash, buy another ecm8000. Use the pair as overheads through the audiobuddy & into the 2 line inputs on the eurorack. Put a 57 on the snare, a 58 on the kick and the mxl out in front of the kit.
We ended up adding a ride to the kit, so I used the 603's as overheads & the b3 on the guitar amp. This was the 1st time I used the 603's & I was very happy with the sound I got. Much less harsh than the v67's we had used as OH's before. Also, the room we were in sounded great, so I think we...
Thanks everyone. A few things to add: This kit only has 2 cymbals, a crash right next to the hihat. Using a stereo pair for overheads will put all cymbals on the left side & all toms on the right side. This is why I'm leaning towards a more mono setup. I was figuring that there might be a...
I am borrowing one of these this weekend for a bass DI. I was thinking about using the other channel for snare or kick. Any thoughts on how well it will perform on these?
I am recording a band Sunday whose drum kit has just the hihat & one crash for cymbals, 2 toms, kick & snare. I figure I've got the cymbals covered with a mxl603, the snare w/ a 57, beta 52 on the kick. Question is: how to mic the toms?
1 sp b3
2 sm57's
1 mxl603
I'm leaning towards the b3 as...
I like mine & I paid $279. One quirk though- With these your bass response depends highly on placement. You want them about 6" off of a wall, about 4 feet apart.
Behringer ecm8000's are supposed to be good for congas (I believe Harvey Gerst even recommends them for this application). I've never used mine for congas, but I can imagine they would work well. You can buy a pair for $70 & that leaves you $230 to spend on a preamp or some other gear!
I'll most likely be recording him in the bathroom, sitting on the toilet......playing the didg, that is. Now where was that 'recording ass plops' thread?:D
Thanks, Dan. As a relative newbie myself, I think this is the best explanation of this I've read so far. And it's even better coming from a fellow South Carolinian. With all the ignorance that spews out from this state, it's nice to see some signs of intelligent life:D
p.s.-the listening...
Anyone done this? Is it best to record inside the thing or in front of it? Should I use a ld condensor, a sd condensor, or a dynamic? I have mxl603's, a sp b3, a sm57, and a mxl v67, but I have a beta 52 on the way. Any suggestions?
In whatever software you are using, you need to set up a mono track & set the record input for that track to the left input from your omni i/o. Currently, you are trying to record a mono signal onto a stereo track.
For us, 'Gin & Juice' (Gourds style) & 'Let's Get It On' are the obligatory songs. You would be amazed at what the women will do when you play 'Let's Get It On'. Our setlists are always up for impromptu revisions. I agree with savageblues, If you got em dancing, keep em dancing!
