    four track question

i started with a tascam 424 mksomething. It was great. It was a fantastic place to start. I guess you could go digital and have all the bells and whistles, but aren't you starting out to try to get a good signal into a microphone, onto a medium so you can hear it back? Keep it simple to...

My first attempt at binaural miking

http://gearslutz.com/board/showthread.php?t=107775 in the context of the question, it was having to do with live lead vocals. I thought, well i'm doing studio not live, but fuck it why not. THEN i said "wait no, don't butt fuck it." Basically, i chained two twin channel bellari rp220's...

My first attempt at binaural miking

here's a ROUGH demo of our latest song. We miked the drum set using our kick drum mic (speaker rev wired dealy) and two SDC mics, set in a binaural pattern 2 feet above and 1 foot behind the drummers head. This was also my first attemp at chaining mic preamps on the main vocal. I learned this...

Trying to record my amp in the other room.

nope, we played alongside bands like that for years. I had to think of new ways to sound like i liked them. So i started complementing their equipment so i wouldn't have to lie about their shit songs

Trying to record my amp in the other room.

yes it is more expensive, but we make our own so it doesn't hurt like running to guitar mart and standing in line for 1/2 hour while the 12 year old reincarnation of Kurt Cobain attempts to learn "rape me" on an out of tune squire strat. :)

    Recording Drums

a meter is a meter, i believe you can change the unit of measure on the channel meters in PT, but don't ask me how. I would leave quite a bit of room. If there is a green segment, an orange segment and a red, stay in the green, allow for the orange, FEAR THE RED :)

Trying to record my amp in the other room.

we put the amp head in the control room and sit and play there, and run a line from the head to the cabinet in the other room.

    Swapping tubes

We swapped out the tubes in our two bellari rp220's last night with EI Elite 12ax7ln tubes. We did a test run using two Rode Nt3's in xy over the drum set. Then changed tubes and ran the recorder again. We have two Rp220's one of the first "editions" from whenever they came out, and a brand...

    I hate reverb.

i usually opt for natural ways to add reverb and ambience, echo chamber, re-amping. i've used some expensive reverb systems and i think they lacked an organic quality. however, a lot of people don't record or mix in such a way that sounds natural anyway, and in those cases, i think digital...

    Preamp mod

this page shows a bunch of different ones. http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/opa2604.html#topsidemarking i'm wondering if i can choose one or many and i won't run the risk of damaging the unit. I'm not well versed in modifying audio gear

    Preamp mod

    Preamp mod

and how difficult is the opamp mod in general. Can i type in the specified one in the first post and click buy and know that it's correct? Can i then easily locate it in the chassis and replace it?

    Preamp mod

I've got two Bellari Rp220's and i'm wondering if there are alternate tubes i could use, or simple mods to alter the sound. I like them, wondering if they can be better :)

    recording without headphones

we sometimes record backup vocals in the booth with the mix being played in the control room. the vox track on the mixer is muted of course. sometimes it helps you feel like you're not performing vocal surgery on a track and just singing along.

    Vocal Tracking

i like the sound of double tracked main vocals. i mix em down the middle and not always at the same volume. I'm also not that worried about them being PERFECT. I don't think they sound good on a lighter arrangement, although, on a track we did that was just acoustic guitars and 1 main vocal...
