This might be part of the problem - I live in an apartment building and need to keep the amp at a comfortable room level. It's definitely not quiet, but likewise it's not loud. It's just loud enough to get the tubes sounding warm. Maybe - for this reason - I should steer away from the...
I'm looking for a condenser mic to record electric guitar though a fender hot rod deluxe (setup is a firebox (soon to buy a preamp for it) through an iMac G5.
I originally bought a Sennheiser MD421 but am unhappy with how it records on the firebox (I have to turn the gain WAY up and have...
Thanks! This is great to hear. At the same time, it's somewhat dissapointing. I live in an apartment building and can't play my amp too loud - therefore wonder if I should return the MD421 for a condenser?
However, I don't have a budget limit - so I can afford a preamp. Any...
I'll be able to try a new mic and cable this weekend. In the meantime - I've tried using the +12db gain on the firebox software control panal. It made a difference, but marginal at best.
Check out the screenshot link below. This also leads me to be suspicious. With the mic pre ALL the way...
But if you listen to the audio sample here - http://web.mac.com/tikka308/iWeb/Site/Blog/E2D81B64-0CE5-44C7-97CE-89F9F247DDBA.html
I speak into the mic - listen to how strange the volume levels are! It's not only that they are quiet, but that they go up and down.
I'll try the +12 tonight...
I don't believe it has a boost switch. I've posted another audio sample - this time with me speaking into the unit versus plugging my iPod in. It seems like the problem could be the XLR connectors? I say that becuase the iPod sounds fine when plugged in, yet the Mic + mic cable also sound...
Hate to pester, but I would really appreciate any help or feedback. I want to make sure I don't have a bad pre-amp in my Firebox or that something isn't wrong with my connector.
Thanks!
First off, thanks to everyone on this forum! The help is much appreciated.
I just set up my firebox with my sennheiser MD421 on my iMac / Garageband. I'm recording a fender hot rod deluxe; the amp isn't too loud - it's at a comfortable playing level. Anyways, I'm concerned because I have to...
Yeah - i plugged it into my mixer's XLR port and couldn't get a signal. I also plugged it straight into my mackie HR824 with no signal. But when i jack up the pre's on the firebox, it barely works - so when I go back to the store tomorrow, I wonder if I should have them look at the cable or...
help!
Sorry - I just realized it "works" - but something's wrong. I hhave the gain up +30 on the firebox and my amp is decently loud - and it's barely picking up the amp...
I feel like I'm missing something obvious here.. But I just installed my firebox on my iMac - and if I plug my electric guitar in directly, it works OK. However, when I plug in my (brand new) Sennheiser 421 (xlr cable) I get no sound. It's like I'm missing the "on" button on the microphone...
Wow! That's great to hear - thanks for the info. I think I'll be keeping mine a bit simpler. I'm using a presonus firebox and will ONLY be recording electric guitar through my fender hot rod deluxe. Someone recommended the Sennheiser MD421 - which I think you mentioned too. Would you prefer...
I was thinking about keeping it simple with an SM57, but I've heard good things about Marshall's new microphones? http://www.musiciansfriend.com/rec/navigation?N=100001+304625+202555&Ne=1124&page=1
Does anyone have any experience or recommendations? I'm open to anything - and have a budget up...
