    Digi001

Hey Dan, I attended the Digi 001 demo at Guitar center. Pretty impressive stuff! Its ProTools LE that comes bundled which is about 99% of Pro Tools. 24 tracks is the maximum it can handle but the bad news is it won't be avalible for the PC until sometime after March. Cost is around $1000.00 Its...

    condenser mics and computer fans

How about putting a foam-lined box over it. Something simple that you can slip over the computer just for the actual time of the recording. Maybe put some slots for air movement in it.

    Advice: USE LINUX

Emeric, sounds like a lot of the card and software manufactures are getting on the BeOS's bandwagon. Boy would that be great!

    Suggestions Appreciated

The guitars sound good but the vocals sounded a little harsh, maybe a combination of compression and the dynamic mic, don't know for sure. The overall sound was good so I would think the next step would be a good condenser mic and don't EQ the voice at all unless you are going for an effect. I...

    large/small?

First of all let me say, I know nothing but I have been checking out Earthworks mic's and from what I have read the smaller the condenser the faster the transient response and the higher self noise of the mic. That means, I guess, that these would do well with drums, cymbols and anything that...

MP3.COM - the end of our troubles?

I'm with Gibs on this one. Nobody seems to be addressing the submission part of the equation. I know we have plenty of time to decide, but if we want to go with the higher quality route, wav files are going to be all but impossible to upload for those with slower connections. That means...

    getting started right

Hi arw, there was an article in Recording magazine this month called, Just Like Downtown by Paul Stampler and it addressed the issue of getting a professional sound from a DAW setup. He suggested these choices; Mark of the Unicorn 2408 and it's 24 bit companion the 1224, or (and this is what...

    Mastering ground rules.

I think S8-N is on the right track with this. No compression and maybe to make life easier for whoever does the leveling we could agree ahead on some freeware or shareware program to tell us what levels we should get our wav files to in the first place. My submission is 10 years old and I'll...

    CD-R , Zip, or both?

A burner is the way to go, especially since you can also use it to create audio CDs of your music. It depends on who you ask on this BBS but the general concensus is SCSI is not necessary for audio but the newer ATA66 (ide drives) that spin at 7200 rpm are good enough. Two drives are better...

    MIDI to .wav

I'm not sure what exactly you are asking. Midi files in and of themselves are not music. They are just digital numbers telling a synthesizer or drum machine or some other digital sound what to do, like how loud, or how long to hold a note, what its pitch should be ect. Lets say you play a part...

    Pushing the Rei envelope

Whoa. I was just looking for a little intellectual debate on the *future* of home recording with computers, hoping there was hope for those of us with modest means to get close to the pro sound someday. Of course I realize a big part of the pro sound is technique, experience and skill of the...
