    Resilient channel question

a few more questions i almost forgot. 1) Are there any special precautions to take when using resilient channel on ceilings? 2) RC will support up to 3 layers of drywall? even on a ceiling? Is it mounted 16" center?

    Resilient channel question

Just been reading here about resilient channel. I bought a bunch of it for my new rooms, haven't installed it yet. But now I'm wondering. I've got double walls or staggered studs everywhere. Will I still benefit from RC, or does the separation I've already got going to make it a waste of...

What to Put on the Floor

<<note that concrete floors and Wood parquet floors have very similar absorption coefficients. parquet though is a bit better in the low frequencies so with parquet you're really paying for the look and feel, not the acoustics. >> i must beg to differ with Sonix, only because in my real world...

    Studio Update - Drawing

oh, i also wanted to tell you about my experience with concrete floors. When I first built a studio in my house, i poured a concrete floor. I thought a pad and carpet would fix any problems. The sound was so rough that i quickly put parquet on the floor. The sound of parquet with no carpet...

    Studio Update - Drawing

Are you working with existing walls? I know from recent personal experience that you could probably get better acoustics if you angle the wall between the control room and studio. I finally decided to tear down the existing walls in my space, and i'm so glad i did. Makes for a lot of work, tho.

2 QUESTIONS - recessed lighting tradeoffs and high STC doors

scuppari, what doors are you looking at? is that $2800 apiece or for both? It's not in my budget, but I'm worried about street noise. I want NONE!!! If it takes thousands, then so be it, I'd rather spend the money now than kick myself every time a truck rumbles by. but I sure would be...

2 QUESTIONS - recessed lighting tradeoffs and high STC doors

Question 1 -- I really like the look of recessed lighting, but am concerned about losing isolation, cutting big holes in soundproofed ceilings. Should I just go with track lighting? Question 2 -- What improvement will I get by buying an expensive commercial soundproofed door vs. a do it myself...

    Latest pic of studio construction

hey scenario. haven't kept track of costs so far, i just pull out my charge card at home depot! ;-) seriously, i've done it all myself, so the only costs are the tools and lumber. I bought a nice radial arm saw and nailgun, which helped a lot. I designed it myself after a lot of...

I don't know what you mean. What sound barrier stuff? I'll be putting some combination of resilient channel, sheetrock and celotex on every wall, with either tongue and groove wood or acoustic panels on top of that. I pretty much finished framing today, it's gonna be awesome.

    Dreaded street noise vs. soundproofing

and here's a jpg of the proposed layers. By the way, what would be the preferred sequence of layers? the diagram shows RC, drywall, celotex, drywall, but I have no idea what order makes the most sense.

    Dreaded street noise vs. soundproofing

I'd love some advice regarding soundproofing. I've got a normal existing exterior wall (drywall on inside, siding and brick on the other) onto which i've put a layer of 1/2" celotex and a layer of 1/2 drywall. I've built a 2x4 wall an inch inside and I'm still up in the air about exactly what...

    Guitar shopping for young novice

My 16 year old son has been playing my old acoustic guitar for months now, he's starting to get pretty good. He wants to buy an electric now, but I'm a drummer, I have no idea how to shop for a good but cheap guitar. His budget is $250. My biggest concern is to get one that's got easy action...

was on a mission this weekend. framed up a couple more rooms. Just 2 walls to go, then time to spend a fortune on HVAC and electricians. http://classes.berklee.edu/jchase/STUDIO_PROGRESS/Interior%206_30%20control%20room.JPG

    Optimal spacing between walls?

What's the optimal air space to leave between double walls? I want to preserve as much space in my room as possible, but soundproofing is of major importance. I've been planning on 1 inch of space, but I'm curious if that's enough. it also seems un-intuitive to leave air space rather than...
