    What Equipment?

firepod and cubase le i've been using a firepod and the cubase LE software that comes with it. For 600$ I think it's a great deal compared to other items like itself (Digi 002). My cpu has 512mb of DDR Ram and is only 1.6ghz and i've had no problems using the firepod at all.

    Snare Drums

snares i have a 8x14" tama starclassic g-maple and a 5&1/2"x14" tama starclassic birch snare. the birch one has a 2 inch vent on the side of it and sounds very different from the 8" maple snare. i prefer the maple one over the birch, probably due to its size. does anyone else have either...

    The toms won't stop ringing-

heads yeah, you definitely need to pick up some aftermarket heads. Especially if you've have had your drums for a while and you have OLD stock heads.

    Confused about drum set

silly set your kit up the way that it feels most comfortable to you. if that happens to be the way danny carey sets his up, then great, but i wouldn't put that as my top priority. sound and comfort should be your top priorities - you'll be a better player for it in the end.

    Akg C1000s quality?

akg c1000s i own the akg c1000s and use them as drum overheads and i think they soudn great. they are nice and bright and do a good job of recreating my cymbal sounds. Ive also used one on vocals a few times when i was in a pinch and i thought the soudn that i got from it was more than useable.

4 drums or 5 and more..?

two floors yeah, id love to have an 18 incher. i use a 14 and a 16 now and i think id love to have the other floor tom over there. i think ill buy one soon. i used to use a 12" rack with the 14x11" tom on the right next to my 16" floor. . . .but i really hate hanging "floor" toms. i like...

4 drums or 5 and more..?

number of drums i think using just 2 toms is my favorite setup, but every now and then i get the hankering to drag out my other matching toms and have 4 toms going on. in the end i always end up using 2 though. it certainly makes gigging easier as there is that much less that you have to...

I NEED BELLS (haha a typo over there cud prove to be very amusing...)

me too, but I use all Paiste 2002s and I love them. Of course cymbals should ring, but believe me when I say that the flanger bell doesn't just ring. Its ring has a droning effect to it. It sort of modulates as it slowly decays in a very 'gong'-ish sort of way. Don't get me wrong, it...

I NEED BELLS (haha a typo over there cud prove to be very amusing...)

flanger bell i owned the 14" flanger bell for a little while but i didnt really care for it. I think the way Paiste described it dealt with some phrase like, "modulating harmonics/tones". They were dead on. That thing had the longest decay time that i've ever heard in a cymbal. When you...

Firepod - "safely remove hardware" question

I just installed my firepod and i noticed that a little icon pops up near the clock on my cpu. The icon is the "safely remove hardware" icon. Do i need to go through this process everytime i shut the power off on my firepod or just when i actually unplug it from my cpu? The icon goes away...

    cracked crash

i disagree I disagree. The cymbal that I pictured above, a few posts back, sounds great and I've been unable to tell a difference between the sanded, repaired version and the original version. Of course over the years it has dried out a little bit, but my repair job didn't change the sound of...

    cracked crash

I'm telling you, try sanding it down if it isn't too big. It takes an hour or two, but it is sooooo worth it when you don't have to buy a new cymbal. Your crack will only get bigger and you will most likely hear the rattling again. Why would you just let your cymbal continue to crack?

    cracked crash

Size of Crack How big is the crack? It sounds like your is around 1/2" at this point from what you've said. Anyways, I've had lots of luck fixing my crashes. I've been playing a 18" paiste sig. full crash that I fixed for the last two years! The following procedure works great for cracks...

    just a thought...

They let guitarists try out the guitars! I agree, you need to try the drums out before you buy them. Anytime I buy cymbals/drums/guitars at stores I tell them that I won't buy them unless I can hear them first. A drumset is a sizeable investment and you can't just buy a set without hearing...

    "Sound Off" drum silencers

Happy with them I bought a whole set a while back and I'm very happy with them. They definitely reduce the sound enough so that you could play your drums in an apartment, but you do have to be careful with the cymbals as every now and then the pad will shift a little and you might get a...
