    Preferred brand of cables?

George L's I have been slowly replacing all the cables in my pedal board and effects loop with these, and they tend to be cheaper than the high end premade cables, but they are still spendy. great quality, and you can buy ends and cable in bulk and make your own lengths...

    Bass Compressor

I have a monte allums modded CS-3 and it sounds ok with the bass. Allthings being equal, i have taken that pedal DI to a pre and recorded, and done the same with my HK RCB200 head as a DI and the bass head sounds better. The CS-3 needs eq, tends to have less of a full sound, is a bit thinner...

layla 24/96 first two inputs straight to outs

On theoff chance that this helps someone else, the solution was found when i posted to gearslutz... Muting the first two inputs in the echo console did the trick. Still works fine in the DAW, and they no longer always on otherwise. I assumed that muting them would mute them in the software as...

When Were the Last MIJ Strats Made?

Not Reliable: I seem to recall that they still made some there on and off regularly, but they would be much smaller runs. Specific reissues like the one you note would make sense. Late 80's when i picked up a CIJ strat (less than $200 at the time!) they were plentiful. Daav

layla 24/96 first two inputs straight to outs

Something kind of weird and new just started happening. My first two inputs seem to always be on. Say a mic goes into a preamp, then into input one or two. I can hear input 1 in the right channel, 2 in the left. No software open, just windows desktop. When i open cubase, it records normally, but...

    bolt on to set neck

Lots of smart people like Light and Muttley will chime in here, but i am really wondering what would prompt the need? I would guess it would be really hard with a decent pocket for the neck to pit into near-perfectly for the glue to grab. Both my bolt on guitars jsut have a small pocket. I bet...

    best delay pedals

This ended up being the winner, fgound a used one on ebay for about 200 and decided that it looked like i would get what i wanted an be able to get much of that $ back with resale if not. Hate dropping 2 bills on something i haven't tried, but this seems like a keeper, and leaves me not too...

    Fender acoustics

I bought one many years ago, model "San Luis Rey" i don't think it cost over $200 back then. Overall a decent guitar for the $, no major problems decent action. Neck a bit narrow for me, but otherwise a solid entry level acoustic. That said, i would get a seagull S6 today if i was shopping...

    best delay pedals

Thanks for the intput all, many options here... Any opinions on the either of the BYOC delay/echo kits? One is less than 100, the other a bit more, but both would be fun projects, will they be worth it, and ultimately be a keeper delay that won't need replacing anytime soon? Any chance they...

    best delay pedals

Picking up my first one sometime soon, what is the best bang for the buck at, say, under $150. use would primarily be for Johnny Cash, rockabilly and that sort of thing, i imagine. Modding is an option, i have done a couple of monte allums mods successfully so far. Daav

    I'm Building a Pedalboard

Watch woot.com they regularly sell those "squid" multi-outlet things that have each plug on a separate short cord for about $6 a piece before shipping, i use them all over the house. Somewhat bulky but do what they do well. Daav

    My fancy new pedalboard

Looks good! I built a hacked-together board recently that i plan to redo and improve on a bit. A couple things i would recommend, and easy to reach power switch and a drawer or something similar to store things out of the way, but still within reach. Good luck, Daav

    Tube amps >$350

THere is a saying: "you can have it fast, good, or cheap, pick any two" It think that applies here: Fast and cheap but not as good as possible for the $: you can probably find something (the peavey classic 30 or Fender blues JR for instance), but it won't be (as) good as: Good and cheap but...
