I'll believe that when I see it with mine own eyes. If it's indeed true, I sure hope ATR doesn't ruin it. NOS GP9 runs great on my MCI machines. ATR, on the other hand, has consistently been a shedding nightmare.

You're missing a decent large diaphragm dynamic mic (vocals, acoutsic instruments etc), on a tight budget I would recommend an Audio Technica 4033 or something from that line, good sounding workhorse mics. MRL test tapes are essential for keeping you tape machines aligned, definitely order...

There's some wear there for sure. For a definitive answer you could contact John Austin at Sprague Magnetics or John French at JRF Magnetics, they could tell you whether they do those heads and weather it's worth sending them in for eval/contouring.

I have a Tascam 122mkII, nice deck, mine needs a little work at the moment though, funky capstan.

...although of course you have to take care going unbal to balanced as with anything else. With the Distressors it mostly just meant cranking the input up more, or you can patch the source inline on the way to the console's balanced inputs instead of inserting and stay +4bal.
