Green Light (kinda alt rock tune)

Thanks guys from the comments, they are really helpful. I'm afraid to add high end to the drums...because the hit hat already sound really loud and I cant lower them because I used only one mic to capture most of the kit. Thanks Robus, I really spent some time trying to get the best...

Fly at Night - Indie Rock/mix critique

I agree with Nola about the guitars being really loud. I think the mix sounds too bright also! The song is good, the performance and idea for the song is really cool! Really good job, man.

Plz Crit First mix of "Look into the Devil's Eyes"

Personally, I dont like the sound of the kick drum, but for the style it sounds just fine. What I dont dig is the gate reverb thing...but again, maybe that is something that you went for. Tastes aside, the vocals sounds kinda loud to me and I guess you could record more guitars with different...

New Song - On The Edge

Hey, I dig this. Whole mix sounds fine to me. The guitars sounds really good although I think the lead one could be a little more panned to the side. Bass sounds quite fine! The drums sounds really live and I like this a lot. The cymbals might be a little loud, but I really like it this way for...

    Now I Understand

I guess the acoustic its the one that striked me the most. Yeah...I know what you mean...sometimes its really refreshing to take a break while mixing, but at the same time its really fun to keep on tweaking everything, lol.

Green Light (kinda alt rock tune)

Hello there! I've been gone for a while so I guess I'd post this song I recorded by myself to see what you guys think about it. Here are the recording setup I used. Drums: 2 mics Mono OH - MXL V67; Kick Drum - AKG D112 Guitars: Shure SM57 Vocals: MXL V67 Bass: Shure SM57 and direct signal...

    Now I Understand

Maybe the guitars are a little bit loud and that gives the impression that the whole mix is harsh. I think this is a pretty good mix. The vocals sounds good to me...did you double them up? It sounds kind of doubled, but at the same time its a very natural sounding vox. Nice work, man.

    The Death of Mistakes

I absolutely hate fixing bad performances. The problem is - and I guess Nola started this thread based kind on this - people are obsessed about playing and sounding too clean and polished. I do record bands around town here in Brazil and they do play like shit and still, they want to sound...

Guerilla Recording with 16 Bit ADATs

Hell yeah! Live takes! Really, this sounds really good! Nice job, dude.

Minimalist approach to recording acoustic guitar.

Yes you can get interesting sounds with the setup you have. Its just a matter of experimenting. Place the mic in one spot, think in the front of the guitar sound hole. Then record that and listen back. If it sounds to boomy, place it off the sound hole, like aimed at the 12th fret. If sounds to...

The right mic for shouted vocals

Hey man! The interface you should buy depends on what are you going to record. If you going to record vocals only, then any 1 or 2 track channel interface will do. If you are going to record drums or full band I recommend you buying something with more inputs, otherwise you can have some...

    Motown's Snakepit Studio

Guys, I'm sorry. I didnt knew that Studio A and Snakepit were the same studio.

    Motown's Snakepit Studio

Hi everyone. I was reading about old Motown records (much like Marvin Gaye, The Funk Brothers and stuff) and in an article it was written that these guys usually recorded in a studio called "Snakepit" and it consisted of a really small room with a really dry sound. Do you guys know anything...

How does Lars Ulrich record such a massive drum reverb sound for The Black Album?

I really love the drums in St Anger.

Seven Ocean (original song from the band I'm playing drums).

Guys, thanks a lot for your inputs as it already helped me a lot to notice some stuff I havent before. Here is what I did...I panned the lead guitar to the center, lowered the vocals and OH levels. I also compressed just a little the OH's. Can you tell me if it sounds a little better...

Seven Ocean (original song from the band I'm playing drums).

Hey! I'm playing in this band called Red Tapes, from Brazil. We did some gigs already and we decided that it would be cool if we'd release an EP. So I demoed two songs. I recorded the drums first, with four mics (Recorderman, kick and snare) first with the band playing live and tried to get...

    Advice on Sound

You said you've cut the metallic sound of your voice in the soundcloud page. I'd leave it metallic so it would sound as proeminent as the guitar. I think the mix could get some high end to it...like a little high shelf boost in the 10k area. But it sounds nice already, very real and honest.

    Stereofonique, a pop/dance tune

Not so much into the tune, but tastes aside, the mix sounds right. Maybe bring in the low end as Jmac said before.

    Outboard

I liked it. Very agressive sounding mix and it seems that the limiter worked well. I think its a bit too loud, but that really doesnt matter too much, I guess.

    Demos vs Studio recordings

Fine, your call. But anyways, I absolutely prefer raw and demos instead of the final polished versions. I always find them more appealing and real.
