Doubt about limiter and mastering tracks at home.

I set the limiter so the peaks would hit -0.5db. No, I'm not compressing the Overheads in the mix (which is where the hi hat sound comes from). I usually master in the same session that I mix. Do you guys think that using that much plugins in the same session could cause this 'distortion"...

Doubt about limiter and mastering tracks at home.

Thanks Jimmy, I will definately try this plugin. Oh, I just uploaded the two versions. The Loud As Hell one, as the name says, its the one where I found trouble. The other one is with the limiter set to hit at max -7.5db as I mentioned before. https://soundcloud.com/caio-molena/sets/limiter-test

Doubt about limiter and mastering tracks at home.

I'm using Studio One's native limiter plugin.

Doubt about limiter and mastering tracks at home.

Hey guys! I'm not a guy who likes to master songs too loud. I dont like how some modern music sounds so loud and compressed. When I master things at home I usually try to make the mixes to hit -7.5db RMS. I really dont like to go any higher than that. But I'm working with a new band and they...

IR and convolution on cans - how far we are from this?

Yeah, but I dont have any other way to mix. And I dont do it because it is a shortcut...I do it because it is the onyl way I can do it. Also think about what ashcat said...physically headphones are more accurate because there is no interference between the sound source and your ears. There is...

IR and convolution on cans - how far we are from this?

Well actually, Greg did mentioned that headphone mixers are the reason why homerecording is going down to shit. If that doesnt mean that he meant headphone mixes are enourmously inferior to monitor ones, then maybe I misunderstood him.

IR and convolution on cans - how far we are from this?

I dont say headphones are better to mix. It is just a way for those who cant afford monitors or prefer to use headphones. Its different than amp sims...amp sims simulate what actually doesnt exists...

IR and convolution on cans - how far we are from this?

I guess a lesson we can all take from this thread is: It doesnt matter what the medium is...what matters is how a good the mix can be, no matter what tools used.

IR and convolution on cans - how far we are from this?

Dude, I mix some bands from the town I live in, they are happy with what I can get and I'm happy with them being happy. Thats what its all about in the end. I cant make a living out ONLY mixing yet, but I study a lot and I pratice recording and mixing almost every weekend and there is a lot of...

IR and convolution on cans - how far we are from this?

Thing is, I hate when someone says "This is not how music should be made" like they are some kind of superior on the subject. Headphones or no headphones the main thing should be how to make music with your own adversities and not about "well I dont have proper equipment to make music...guess...

IR and convolution on cans - how far we are from this?

And this post is the perfect example of someone who does have proper equipment and "knowledge" of EXACTLY how to record or mix and simply cant make a single song stick in my head or make myself wonder "hm, how he made the drums sound so good like this?"

IR and convolution on cans - how far we are from this?

I agree with you. I really dont intend to glamourize "amateur" methods of mixing. Its just my view on the subject.

IR and convolution on cans - how far we are from this?

I'll just leave my opinion here and maybe some of you will hate it. But I have to agree with Nola...I've heard people's mixes that are mixed with monitors and they sound awful. I do mix with earbudds most of the time and I'm not ashamed of doing so, because I dont have money now to buy a good...

Which of these microphones should I get?

I would also go for the NT1a because it is a very versatile mic. But maybe you should look for videos on youtube and pick the one which pleases your ears and then it will all come into learn how to use the mic for your specific conditions.

    What about EV RE20?

Look man, the RE20 is widely used not only for recording...but for radio work as far as I know (there is a major radio show here ir Brazil which the lead reporter uses this mic). Thing is...the other mic you mentioned is a USB mic, so you dont really need an audio interface to record anything...

    Three Mic Drum Techniques?

Hey man! Dude, I record like that all the time and I actually prefer the sound I can get with fewer mics. Thing is...with fewer mics you need to take care of two things: Mic placement and performance. Also when it comes to mix you cant tweak it and edit the hell out of it...and that is the...

    Shure SM58 Tape Op Mod.

Well, it did reduced the gain a little...but I can still use it on acoustic guitar as you can see. Maybe for a whispery vocal or something similar it can be a pain in the ass...IDK, I'll test it. I agree with Simman...and I did loved the sound I'm getting out of this mod!

    Axe To Grind

I dont like the guitars and drums on this. They sound fine, but too compressed for my taste. I dont like the reverb... The delay on the vocals is a good ideia, but maybe you've used it too much? IDK, I'm just giving me view on it, I hope you dont take offense on this.

    The lost art of living

I liked this track a lot, especially the mono drums! Although its is more 70's than 60's for me...I think the mix sounds just fine. Everything is how it should be for me! Nice one!

    Shure SM58 Tape Op Mod.

Hey guys. I just posted a video on youtube of me testing my shure SM58 with the famous "tape op" mod. For those who never heard of it before, it consists only of taking out the output transformer that is inside the mic. So I made a little comparison video and I wanted to share it for you guys...
